Desired soul level?

Another question guys. I was reading some of the sticky threads and came across 'desired soul level' a few times. Can you clarify for me why someone would have a preferred level.

Is it so that they can invade or be invaded by more people? Do you guys aim for a certain level and then stop levelling up, putting all the souls into upgrades etc?

For pvp there are a few soul levels that maximise your chance of battle. 99 for the arena is one of the best. There are still a few 120s out there you can fight too.

So it's mainly for arena fights then, something I've yet to try.

Anyone care to list the arena lvl guidelines? I know they are divided into groups. But i've gotten mixed data found on it. Also, got a 122 build. And a 168 guy that i was just doing pvE with that neither can seem to get into an arena match with. Granted i'm not patient but still.

100+ (I think, no sure how the last brackett works. It may be 101-200 then 200+)

60-80 for invasions
99 for arena
120 for old school challenge

I'm having problems making a solid SL 120 build. I can't imagine how hard it must be to make a good build for SL 80.

I got two SL 100, but I'm never as satisfied with them as with my SL 120.

Unless you're in the Arena, 120 is still king. Probably 6 or 7 out of every 10 people I fight are right around 120.

But Hallion, for everyone becoming addicted to Dark Souls I recommend making a superman; sl 200, or even higher if you want. It's great to have a character who amasses everything the game has, and who has the ability to use it all. You can experiment with all the different weapons/shields/armors, and if you really take to something create a specific build for it at a more efficient sl.

And sl 200 is still extremely viable for PvP, even in the Arena. Even my main guy, who is now 459, only has to restore humanity and it's on.

The biggest downside to high sl's is that it makes co-op more and more rare, the higher you go. On the other hand, you can create specific co-op builds off of your Superman the same way you create PvP builds.
