Poise and Smough's Hammer Empty Poise and Smough's Hammer

Post by PlasticandRage Fri Nov 30, 2012 8:06 pm

Does anybody know if it's possible to out-poise Smough's Hammer? I've used it a few times with my Smough build, and ended up not being all that impressed with it, but I'm using a heavy poise build right now, I think I have 125ish, and I've been tanking pretty much everything. I just fought a battle as a forest guardian and the host was using the hammer, and he was just tossing me around like I was nothing. Not only did he break all my attacks, but he was flattening me with attacks that didn't look like they should and sending me flying when I tried to block. If it has the ability to break maxed poise than I might consider giving it another shot.

im pretty sure all the greathammers have that ability, which is why whenver i see a med/fat roler with tons of poise i switcht to my large club do one ground pound, switch to my reg weapon and go to town on them.

I have no idea what the amount of poise is that it can break. Care to do some testing. I have all the gear needed to do it. We can take turns smashing each others faces in , fun will be had by all.

I don't know about that. I have a Large Club build and I don't throw players around like that with it. You be willing to do some testing with me? I have a toon that can use the Hammer.

Edit: You ninja'd me. I was responding to Rant. What's your platform?

Nevermind. Rant and I are on top of it. I'll post the results

We just tested. With maxed poise its regular attacks, both 1handed and 2handed, weren't stunlocking, but both rolling attacks were. We didn't test what poise level it starts to stun lock, but Rant stripped down to just havels torso and legs, and it was having the same effect. So I don't think it's any better than anything else at stunlocking normally, it's just that you can abuse the rolling attacks which seem to ignore poise. Rant believes that applies to all great hammers, and I'm inclined to agree. We tested with the Dragon Tooth at maxed poise and it did the same thing. No locking with regular attacks, but locking with rolling ones.

I believe way back in the day when people were first figuring out poise I read that the poise to block a Great Hammer attack was around 140 (I'm fairly certain this was for 2-handed attacks, but I may be incorrect). I can't offer much, but maybe my hunch here could help narrow things down when you're testing happy

im pretty sure the reg r1 2h it needs 76. the ground pound is the one that stuns you no matter how much poise you have.
