    I like how they called blending the lines of single and multiplayer what makes the game completely unique when it's already been done. That was a pretty bad trailer too. It showed about two different settings all just killing a bunch of enemies. There didn't seem to be any rhyme or reason other than just killing them :|

    I think it's a really nice expansion upon the basis that souls multiplayer is formed..

    Oh wait, they said it's unique.. seems legit lol!

    To be fair, it's the same methodology for the online play, but the point is completely the opposite of souls. It's encouraging maximum interaction between players and emphasises a feeling of unity amongst the online community of the game, while souls is the opposite and is used to show simply how alone you really are.

    I can see how they could call it innovative as this system does genuinely seem to add new ideas to use of online play, but it's in no way unique

    Subtle copying was blatant... They would have made a better game if they just mirrored the DkS world and named it Souls Dark. Red + Blue phantoms would be helpers, Orange and White would be invaders. Essentially what I mean by mirrored is eg; the burg is currently to the left of Firelink, it now would be to the right, that would make the graveyard where petrus normally is! THIS IDEA IS GENIUS! MAKE SOULS DARK NOW!

    I wouldn't mind if they just treat it like a unique achievement. That's the real annoying part.

    To be fair, the saying goes 'there's nothing new under the sun', and really while i'm sure it's annoying and disappointing to say, from will have got their wonderful online system idea from somewhere in all likelihood.

    Or maybe they just had a wonderful original thinker on their team. Everything has to start somewhere.

    Probably the System they use was not in use before, but is a mix of previously designed systems just molded together.

    Personally I don't think you can hold the silly words of one developer against a whole game. We're all fans of the souls series here. If this game brings similar play, then who cares? It might be great. We might all end up loving it. I say bring on more of the same.

    It shows badly in that the person designing the game needs to do more research on what other games are in development. While Dark/Demon's are not huge titles they are fairly large and are games they should be aware of.

    I think they probably are already. Watching the trailer I'm seeing something that looks really similar to the souls game's white phantoms, only with red coloring. See what I'm talking about? I'd call that system, seeing other players in other worlds as transparent phantoms, an idea that's a kind of signature of the soul's games. I can't see them just randomly coming up with that idea without having seen it somewhere else first. It just strikes me as being too much of a coincidence. It's possible that it is, but I don't think so. Still, it wouldn't prevent me from playing a game that looks like I'd enjoy.

    Yeah, I can't argue with any of that. IMO credit always should be given where it's due, but my hang up, or at least one of my hang ups, is that we don't know the circumstances. For all we know they were directly influenced by From, and wanted to give credit, but for legal reasons couldn't. Or maybe From saw their game and didn't like something about it, or didn't like something about the developers, and specifically asked that they didn't equate it to their own work. It could be any number of things. What I find most likely is that the developers are fans of the souls series and when they started producing their own game, knowing how spectacular the souls games are, they were inspired to play off of some of the same concepts. I feel like as such rabid fans as most of us are, if any of us were game developers I can't see us not in some way being inspired by From. When it comes down to it in the end, we don't hurt From by buying similar games. It only hurts From if we stop buying their products.

    And, all said and done, I can't see the release of this game accomplishing that at all. It just doesn't look good enough to be real competition.

    The issue with that though is he should have just not described it as unique even if there were reasons which did not allow him to mention other games. Perhaps it was a slip up on his part but still it is said and is out there. I'm not sure if they've made any public announcements about that though as I've only seen this one interview/trailer.

    ^ Yeah, again, I can't argue with that. Even if, for some reason we don't know, they couldn't give a shout out to From, it's still a bit silly to describe it as a wholly unique experience.

    It sort of reminds me of the Binding of Isaac and Sushi Castle issue that arose. Sushi Castle wasn't necessarily an awful game, but it was a blatant rip-off of the Binding of Isaac, and as such, pretty much everyone who was a fan of that kind of game hated Sushi Castle for copying TBoI.

    Diddy Kong Racing is just a blatant rip-off of Mario Kart 64. Go karting races with famous game characters where you pick up items that you can use to mess other players up? Why don't they just call it Mario Kart: Rare Edition? Nevermind that the items aren't randomly picked and have upgrade systems, or that there's a story mode and multiple types of vehicles. Still just a ripoff.

    No offense guys, but this is what it kind of sounds like. Sure they take some elements from the Souls game that worked for this type of connectivity, but they also seem to expand on it some. Your "covenant" not only affects how you interact online, but also your story progression? Appearing not as just an invader, but as a powered-up boss version of yourself? Even if the ideas aren't completely original, they put certain "unique" spins on them that could change how the game as a whole operates.
