dark souls already has an easy mode

most of us know that dark souls is not hard because of the damages or health of mobs and bosses... it is hard because the first time you play you dont know their movesets and how to counter their attacks... later on you recognize their openings...

this became evident to me when the dlc came out... i had not been challenged by the monsters in dks for so long and then we met the guardian... i ran in and attempted this beast and died the first 4 times... its then i realized that really you cannot have a dmg vs health type of easy mode for dark souls because thats not why dark souls is hard

now as i continued to think about it I realized that dks already had an easy mode... its called the master key.. it allows you to skip multiple hard areas of the game (capra demon, depths, top of blighttown(*** you blighttown), and even allowed you to open doors that would require you to go find another key

another version of easy mode in dks is the ability to summon phantoms... 3 ppl vs 1 boss is a joke and even my grandmother could beat this game by summoning phantoms in every area because they are experts at the boss and the level

so next souls game doesnt need an easy or hard mode it just needs refinement of these already availble "easy modes"!!

I really appreciate your input in this my friend. however these threads are getting too old there are like 6-8 of them already about easy modes. However agreed. There shouldnt be any actual easy mode.

Actually the Master Key is more of a Hard mode to me .

You get less Souls so you are at a Lower Level later (unless you farm ofc but then you could just do the Normal way )

@chaosrave- I disagree, and would argue that the Masterkey merely saves time, but doesn't make the game any easier for the plain and simple reason that more often than not you're still going to face the Boss and areas that you've mentioned, all be-it a little later in the game.

Also, is it even possible to reach the Depths if you haven't beaten the Capra demon, even if you have the Master key?

I'm not sure it is, as I vaguely remember trying once, only to be told that the door was open from another contraption, or some such thing.

Anyway, I digress, if DkS has an easy mode, it's undoubtedly the ability to play the game off-line. As nothing will fk your day up more than like when your say making your way through to the middle of the Tomb of Giants, only to find yourself being fk'd-over by some Invader before you've had the chance to rest at the second bonfire.

But none of this matters, as I honestly believe that all this talk about an 'easy mode' is pure nonsense, as DkS being part of the Souls game series should be hard as fk to play, and for this reason alone it screams out for a 'hardcore' mode for when the game becomes too predictable.

I totally agree Gaz. My memory is a bit hazy too where getting to the Depths is concerned but I'm pretty sure that you can't open the door to the Depths with the Master Key. You can get to Quelag's domain via New Londo Ruins but you've still got to run the gauntlet of those pesky dart throwers and what about that b***dy wheel. I've died more times than I care to remember falling off that thing and don't get me started on those (insert own swear word) mosquitos.

Yeah I suspect the Blighttown wheel has caught out many an adventurer in it's time, and I've lost count the amount of times that I've come a cropper trying to roll off it at the top. As for the mozzies and the Dart Blowers, a light crossbow works a charm when it comes to picking these lil blighters off!

Speaking of the Dartblowers, I got some well earned payback on one of them the other night. It was that awkward lil sod on the righthand sloping ledge as you just enter the area where the Fire Keepers soul is (not the one directly above the Fire Keepers Soul, but the one that appears to of set himself up in a safe spot, as you need to make a well timed leap over a gap to get to him). Anyway, as is customery I dashed through avoiding his darts, quickly took out the other Dark Blower towards the back of the area, and keeping a sprint up managed to pull of a leaping forward attack across the gap, which absolutely pancaked him! As with almost every impressive move that I manage to pull off in this game it was a total 100% fluke, but it felt very sweet doing it all the same!

Yeah summoning makes the game far less difficult. I understand that it leaves you open to invasion but I would guess that the vast majority of players who finish this game could not do it without summoning.

One of the best reasons to be dragon, mosquitoes just die.

Playing offline is not exactly an easy mode. I am currently finishing up NG+++ offline (xbox but no gold subscription) and the lack of invaders is certainly offset by the inability to summon other players and inability to invade or co-op for extra resources. Honestly I would prefer to play online if I could, despite the invasions.

Sorted them a couple of days ago at about the nth attempt. I've become allergic to stairs in the process and aged about ten years. In the end I two handed the Gold Tracer and used the R2 attack. They didn't like that. Although it was a close run thing. Now for Gwyn, oh dear, here we go again!

Those stupid dartblowers used to give me nightmares. Then I discovered the joys of poise and crossbows. Now I just grab a couple of mosses, and march through them, getting toxic, and healing up, as I go. 45 seconds, they're all toast, and then I take the moss. Much easier,

But they are certainly a pain, so much that after I finished the depths and opened blighttown, I skipped most of it via new londo. (NG+++ and I would hate to leave a boss alive)

Dark souls certainly has an easy mode, it is called experience. The difference is that it is not available from the start. Once you know what you are doing, the game is far less brutal. Which makes sense, since the game is centered around learning how to survive in its world. Personally I think that is my favorite part of the game, learning to survive again and again.

Nope. Master Key doesn't open the depths door, nor does it open the door from blightown. Last week I made the retrograde journey all the way up to the top, only to get a "door does not open from this side." There is no way to obtain the large ember without killing the Capra Demon.

-Master Key
-SHIELDS (Mostly Great Shields)
-Summoning (Good Idea, but ganking >_> )
