Ya know even if you get a co-op partner you won't be able to see whether they have light or not. There's all kinds of methods for getting light. There's the skull lanterns, the sunlight maggot, and the light Spell. If you're in the TotG's already it means you didn't manage to get a skull lantern drop in the Catacombs, so in order to get one of those you'd have to go even further into the Tomb. If it were me I'd go for the maggot. Which I usually do before the Tomb anyway. But if you have enough intelligence to use the light spell that might be the less time consuming way to do it. Do you know how to do any of that? I could explain more thoroughly if you don't. I'd offer help directly but I don't have any characters in your SL range.

if ur int base u should get the light spell from dusk, sunlight maggot is in the demon ruins to the right before the fire sage demon u will see these little bugs, if u kill enough of them one might drop the sunlight maggot. but the light spell is easier to get in my opinion

Do you have at least 14 Intelligence? If you don't, or don't plan on getting it, then the Maggot is the way to go. It sounds like this is your first playthrough, so I'll be as specific as I can. I'm also going to spoiler these, because if this actually is your first time and you're trying to figure everything out yourself know that in reading these explanations you'll be ruining some things for yourself.
If you don't mind pumping at least 14 points into Intelligence here's how you get the light spell:
If you don't want to do 14 INT then here's how to get the Maggot. I think it's a better solution because it's more permanent light without having to keep casting it or use up an attunement slot to carry it.
All in all the light spell is easier to get and is less time consuming, but is only applicable if you have 14 INT. The Maggot takes longer and is harder to get, but is a better all around method to approaching the Tomb in my opinion.
If you don't mind pumping at least 14 points into Intelligence here's how you get the light spell:
- Spoiler:
- Go to the Darkroot Basin, which is the area down below the forest where
you fought the Moonlight Butterfly. It's got a big lake with a giant
hydra in it that shoots magic at you when you get close to it. You're
going to have to kill that thing. It's intimidating but it's actually
not that hard. You should have a shield with decent stability. Run down
into the water and fight it from there where it can't hit you with it's
magic. Anyway once you've done that quit and reload. Then skirt the left
side of the lake and run all the way to the end and you'll come across a
golden crystal golem. Kill it and an NPC will appear that was trapped
inside it. Talk to her, then quit and reload again. Then run to where
you fought the hydra and there will be a summon sign on the ground. It's
the NPC you just saved and she sells you the light spell.
If you don't want to do 14 INT then here's how to get the Maggot. I think it's a better solution because it's more permanent light without having to keep casting it or use up an attunement slot to carry it.
- Spoiler:
- Anyway, go down into the swamp below Blighttown. You can normally warp
here, but you may not have found this area yet, in which case you'll
have to go down the traditional way. You want to run to the area where
you rang the second bell of awakening. Past where you fought Quelaag,
the woman/spider thing. Past her boss room is the room with the bell,
and below that room is another circular room that looks pretty similar.
In that room there's an illusory wall you can break through revealing a
secret area. There's a dude in there that looks like an enemy, but make
sure you don't attack him. He's an NPC. Tell him you're a new servant,
then talk to the other NPC that's in there. She's a covenant master.
Join her covenant. Give her 30 humanity and you'll become level 2 in the
covenant. Once you've done that go through the Demon Ruins, which is
the area you can access through the hallway right by the room with the
Chaos Covenant I just told you to join. You need to fight your way
through here. Fight the first boss here, called Ceaseless Discharge. He
seems tough but there's a trick to it. You'll figure it out if you do
some experimenting. Anyway continue until you come to the next fog gate
and you'll see a big hallway directly to your right. At the end of it is
a big door you can open now because you made level 2 in the Chaos
Covenant. Around that door are a bunch of little bugs. Kill all of them
and the last one will drop the Sunlight Maggot.
All in all the light spell is easier to get and is less time consuming, but is only applicable if you have 14 INT. The Maggot takes longer and is harder to get, but is a better all around method to approaching the Tomb in my opinion.

Re: SL 50 co op help plz ps3
I just had to explain the same thing to a PSN friend like the day before yesterday. It's his first time playing and he somehow managed to get himself lost way down inside the Tomb with no light. I had to walk him out of it without being able to sit and watch him do it. It's easy to forget how crazy it is down there before you know what to do. All dark with those giant skeleton archers firing at you.

Re: SL 50 co op help plz ps3
In my first playthrough I refused to even go down into the Catacombs for the longest time. Catacombs and Tomb were actually the last things I did before the Kiln. I kept creeping down the steps and aggroing the floating heads and just running right back out.

Catacombs, at least, are usually one of my first stops now. If I'm choosing the master key I usually will go grab Astora's SS and then run through the Catacombs for the Rite of Kindling.

Re: SL 50 co op help plz ps3
i still save it for last mostly because all the stuff i want/need are in other places. Nothing down there that i really like except paladin. my future faith build will probably go down there first.

Faith requirement is present for Astora's SS. Not every low level toon can effectively wield it.

Don't really need to wield it effectively. Just land your killing blows with it on the skele's to put em down. I usually use it in my offhand and alternate my shield out.

Re: SL 50 co op help plz ps3
Yeah, as long as you have the STR and DEX requirements, which aren't that high for Astora's, then you can at least access its proper moveset. It's damage is garbage, well more so than normal, but it's still technically divine damage. I'm pretty sure it's the earliest one you can access without making one yourself. This conversation actually has me thinking about that. I'm pretty sure it is though.
