Does anybody have advice on how to lose weight and keep fit while staying on a healthy diet of video games and internet? My mom tells me I have gained weight and while I'd like to say it's for winter hibernation, who am I kidding?

And before anybody asks... No, I do not lift. tongue

I actually don't exercise at all. Unless you count walking to the subway station or window shopping. I tried jogging in the summer (using the Zombies, Run! app), but it's too cold for that now.

Zombie Run! is awesome! I just discovered it not long ago. I've been playing it when I walk to campus. Such a neat idea.

Here's my small piece of advice. Soda is really awful for you, and, like most people I used to drink a fair amount of it. Instead of soda I now buy 12 packs of plain seltzer water, and mix it with fruit juices when I'm craving something carbonated. I actually think it's better tasting than normal soda, and you wouldn't believe how much weight I dropped the first month just from not drinking all that high fructose crap anymore.

I have a whole regiment for climbing, but that's a pretty general thing that I found helped a lot.

Plastic, I actually don't drink much pop or soda. Maybe once or twice a month I will have a glass of pop or soda. I don't like... the fizziness. 😢
But I see your point. Looking at what I eat, I think the culprit is cheese. I love cheese.

Cook, getting active is the obvious answer... And I don't have an interest in joining the roller derby because it requires too much commitment and time.

    It was a joke.

Seriously, just walk a little more, and don't eat stuffy food... And don't listen to people that like to bring you down either.

Yeah, I'm definitely guilty of that as well. Acidic's right on the money there. You really can eat what you want, within reason, as long as you stay active. I take my dog for a hike every other day, and don't come home till I'm sweating. Keeps me where I need to be so I can keep training when I'm not in school.

I drink 3 times my weekly allowance of alcohol and sit on the bus to get anywhere.. And that's on a boring week lol!

To be honest as long as you eat right you shouldn't have to worry about weight gain, but try and avoid the random taking of food from friends or the extra snack you have when you're bored, because that alone over a time can affect your weight.

At least my nutrition lectures came in handy somewhere silly

Hmm, I do Taekwondo and lift to stay in shape, but cutting back some crap out of your diet helps a lot. I lost 20 pounds over the course of a few months just by switching to diet soda and only allowing myself one snack a day (I exercised too of course) and now I'm down to a healthy 160. You really can't lose weight without exercise unless you starve yourself or have a really fast metabolism. It might be too cold to run, but you could take up a martial art or join a gym to use the treadmill.

I have the easiest and one of the most effective ab workouts in the universe. Although you still need some discipline to do it but it if you can't motivate yourself to do this you aren't going to find any easier exercise.

Step 1: Put comedy show or movie on TV. Anything that will make you laugh.

Step 2: Lie down flat with full view of TV possible at all times

Step 3: Lift your heels off the surface (bed, couch, floor, etc.) about 6 inches and keep them there

    Step 4: Watch comedy

Step 5: Keep watching comedy until you can't hold your legs up anymore

The leg lift is actually the basis for an insanely brutal ab workout we used to do in my one year of gymnastics (in college for random credit). It was a five minute routine that was difficult enough for a good number of the gymnastics team to struggle with let alone me. The variation here uses that idea with the natural reaction of your body while laughing. You contract a lot of muscles rapidly while laughing. I used to do this and trust me, you'll feel it quick. It also works the upper legs pretty well.

Apart from that, like the rest of us, you know the answers. The problem isn't finding out HOW to lose weight or gain muscle mass, it's in getting the motivation to do it. I hate to be mean but I've literally never met an overweight person who didn't know how to lose weight. And I don't have room to talk since my motivation has been at a historic low for awhile now.

Anyway.....I'm also with Cook. I think he was hinting that you need to be happy with your weight not anyone else. Can we all stand to be healthier? Yes....but from what I've seen you're not in the "need to lose weight" category by any means. Workout for you and you'll get better results.

I go jogging once a week for 2 miles or so and I haven't gained weight for the last two years I've been doing it. So I guess it works.

I used to do gymnastics too!(9 years, was really good) big grin but I quit last year, almost exactly 365 days ago, i have a fast metabolism so I eat whatever I want and I'm gaining a couple pounds, but I'm going through puberty so it's natural.
(On-Topic) The best way to lose weight in my opinion is to ride a bike, it doesn't feel uncomfortable because it doesn't put stress on your joints so you can go longer, I used to ride my bike 12 miles a day, and it's good cardiovascular exercise, really the best type of exercise to lose weight is cardiovascular exercise, but if you are looking for muscle, do what Chadis/Ghadis is doing.

Okay Bunny, are you ready to become a man of the largest proportions? Yes, yes you damn well are!

    Step 1: Diet

This is of equal importance to exercise, and we're talking optimising here. No more saturated fats, only polyunsaturates, fibres, and high proteins. Lean red meats, white meat and fish are some of the best foods for muscle gains during exercise. Eggs, Seeds, SOME vegetables, and many other things you can google contain these in good amounts.

Drinkwise, the only real options here are Milk, Water, and protein shakes. choose wisely.

    Step 2: Exercise

You should be doing at least 2 cardio sessions a week if you are trying to cut weight. VO2 max training, aka running or biking to exhaustion is considered by some to be the greatest way to cut, as it increases your cardio time every day due to signifigant changes in body composition. If JUST going for cuts, and not trying to get those aesthetics (I know you want them), you can do cardio every second day. What Skare wrote will help with inbetween days for cardio, as it acts as a whole lower body workour.

If you are wanting to get bulking with muscle gains, shoot me a question.

Hahahha, thanks for the advice everybody. As a start, I'm going to start taking more stairs... I'm sooo sedentary, it's not even funny. And ugh, this is going to sound so lazy of me, but is there anything I can do WHILE PLAYING VIDEO GAMES OR OTHER THINGS? I don't have as much time as I would like and multi-tasking so I don't have to think about how much I hate exercising (or all the others things I could be doing) would be nice.

Digitalyzed, I'm not looking to gain muscle or bulk up, but I'd very much like to become a man of the largest proportions! LOL! :face:

One thing I learned in the Marines, don't eat before you go to sleep. You can gain weight just by sleeping on a full stomach.

Take my recommendation but instead of using laughter to get the muscles going there's a few leg exercises that will kill just about anyone. Feel the burn in about 10 seconds.

Video games + excersize eh bunny? In any sort of multiplayer experience (Eg, halo, cod, dark souls , LoL)
Every time you die do a small to medium amount of X excersise here. something like sit ups crunches press ups whatever works for you. not only will you do alot more excersise than you notice but it will make you play better (or at least it does me) because you wont zone out from sitting still for too long silly

Also cycling. cycling a good chunk of your daily commute helps enormously.

When I read all of these ways to stay fit it makes me feel bad for not really doing anything to stay in decent shape. I can exercize only once a week and eat nothing but junk food and still stay in better shape than my friends. sad

And if you can handle it, try Insanity. Intense workout but more than worth it.

The most efficient way that I stay in shape is just by running. I run usually 5-6 days out of the week (never on Sunday because I like to rest), and usually I try to either get in a fast workout where I'll be sprinting for a short distance, or else I try to go for distance, usually around 7-8 miles. It's a great way to lose any weight you feel like you don't need. I know you said it's getting too cold, but you can either bundle up or try to find a decent place to run in doors. I'm not much of a fan of treadmills because I get bored, but if you can stand the monotony, those can be good too. Cycling is also a great way to stay fit. Anything that can get you sweating really will be good for you.
