Did anyone play and like Dragon's Dogma?

Post by Back Lot Basher on Wed Nov 21, 2012 3:43 pm

Sorry for dropping a randomly off-topic post, but I've seen a few people recommend Dragon's Dogma in other posts. Since most of us probably use the Souls' games as our benchmark in RPG's, I figured your opinions on this game would be the most accurate for my tastes. Is it worth a play?

It's a fantastic game and there isn't much else out there quite like it (Apart from the rpg elements in it obviously) but it needs to be said that it doesn't satisfy the same as Dark Souls. It's more mainstream RPG than that.

My buddy absolutely loves it and from watching him play a bit I'm definitely going to pick it up once I catch up to my already lengthy catalog of games I barely play cuz of these damn Souls games. I've really been meaning to play the demo available on PSN/XBL but always forget.

I've seen a few gameplay clips, and I have to say, it looks awesome. Maybe not as polished as the combat in DkS, but still pretty decent looking. Awesome looking world.

I really enjoyed it, its much more fun to pick up and play then Dark Souls. Also it does not need a constant wiki guide to make it more fun either. Its also amazing in the details, you play a big fat character? You run slower, and climbing takes more stamina, but you can carry more, while a small light character can literally bounce of monsters and out pace everything, at the expense of getting weight down by gear easily.

The gear progression is also better as well, things are made availible as you can use them rather then the one or 2 early must haves before trading for the next weapon that you then stick with for the whole game.

i think the game is allot of fun, i play pretty much dark souls exclusively while chipping away at dragons dogma when i need a break from dks.... I have been playing it with no wiki or any other source of help which really makes it feel like a bit more of an adventurer, i have seen everything in dks now and am pretty much just playing for pvp.... dd is a fairly good game with varied and interesting combat mechanics and a large/open map to explore. i find the story a little dull, in general not very engaging....the morst fun i have had thus far is wandering around and not knowing what enemies are around the corner or what dungeon i will find myself in. its worth checking out...

Glad this is up , saves me a post. Ok SO I have Dragons Dogma and well I am probably an hour and a half in and I just cant get into it. I liked Skyrim and most of the Elder Scroll series and I love DKS but I dont know. Dragon's Dogma just seems very blah so far. Am I missing something ? Also , why are the pawns retarded? I spend a lot of time reviving them.

Edit: Also WTF is with the theme song , I get that it is a JRPG , but for Gods sake that intro is just sh!+ lol

It's a fun game. It has some serious issues that work against it like no fast travel, stupid pawns, and the storyline isn't that great. The gameplay really seems to make up for it though.

    The boss fights are epic.

    I highly recommend it.

If you overanalyze it you will end up with a mixed review, but if you just put it in your xbox and play it you will likely find yourself in love. Perfect? No. Good? Yes.

I too was put off by the opening of the game, but for personal nit pickey reasons. There was so much HUD info on the screen it was just driving me crazy. I didn't know where to begin, I felt like I was having an information overload. I stuck with it though, and after an hour or so you will realize that you can play entirely without the HUD and turn it off. The first boss fight gives you a taste of the awesome to come, and the character creation is bar-none.

As for the story, which some complained about, lets just say that the second half of the game becomes so engrossing that you are going to play it straight through and not want to put it down. During the middle it does wain and get pretty dull, but thats your explore/level up time.

Game has quite satisfying combat but suffers from a deceptively small map, somewhat lackluster A.I, overpowered classes and skills (Who designed Assassin?), lack of challenge later on, bad storyline (No, really. Some side-stories aren't even completed. "We'll keep in touch, friend", yeah right), annoying and sometimes unrewarding side missions (You have 3 types: Escort [Annoying], Retrieval [Tedious] and hunting [Well, repetitive]); good missions are often only once per playthrough.

The game has NG+, except you keep all your stuff and your enemies get nothing so you just cruise through NG+. The secret boss is either ridiculously powerful that it ain't fun or a complete let down due to overpowered skills (Assassin).

I think I am going to return it. For the love of god , I really wish my pawn would STF!!!! I Know Wolves hunt in packs you a$$hole. Also the game it self just has constant pop ups for sh!+ I dont even need pop ups for. Do you really need to tell me "If an enemy is too much to handle , you can always run" 78723634978632505098 F#(king times , jesus christ. Also why cant you lock on to target maybe you can but I havent figured out how to. The game "Says" it has an autosave feature , does it? When exactly does it decide to save , ever 3 hours? Its the worst autosave I have ever seen. I dont know , its just seems like some things were over done and others had no time spent on them at all. Rant over lol.

P.S. can you have hot button to heal yourself , or do you have to go into the menu everytime?

You can turn all the HUD items off. I recommend doing that.

    As well as NPC dialogue.

I have Dragon's Dogma and have been slowly progressing through. It is a very good game and the mix of solo rpg with online components is new and fun. I would recommend it to anyone who likes the genre.

It's a very fun game, and while you can get through a lot simply button mashing, the depth of the combat is actually very good. It's not quite the strategic ideal that I hoped for with creating your team, but i'm sure that'll improve if they make a sequel.

It took me about 50 hours to play through it. I did a few side missions, but only ones which really interested me. The combat as I said is interesting, mixing up classes and getting to use all the different techniques each has is a nice experiment, though i gotta say they 'easy mode' class if you will is magic archer, it just rinses the game.

The story was alright, but the world was nice.. I would have liked there to be more dungeon sort of places or a larger world.. to me it did feel very small, I almost half expected even when I was at what i didn't know to be the end of the game there to be a whole other half to the map. It's a nice world and travelling round it is really fun, but yeah i guess there wasn't enough of it for me.

The nighttime thing is cool though, i'd recommend doing a run through when all you do is work and travel at night, it makes the game way more fun.

I'd give it.. probably a 7 or 8. It's a good game with some nice combat, an ok story and an immersive world, I just think there were some bits that didn't live up to their potential and could be improved and expanded upon. Definitely worth getting.

It's great. The problem is that is doesn't have any replay value, it has NG+, but with no diffculty increase. You just start again with your same stats and equipment, but enemies don't get tougher :|.

But the first and only playthrough, it was awesome, it's very fun, and very hard. Not like Dark Souls but close, and you need to prepare for battles. You don't go know what you will face, that's why you should bring anything. Last thing you want it's one of your teammates gets petrified and you don't have any anti-petrify items, they will get smash quickly into dust.

    Very fun.

I was a proud Magic Archer (or whatever is the name of the class, I played it in Spanish).

It's very long, too. It took me 40 hours to complete it, and I almost didn't do any secondary quests (which there are lots of it).
