Ever make new builds just to try a new weapon? Empty Ever make new builds just to try a new weapon?

    Post by RCPD_STARS Wed Nov 21, 2012 11:24 am

I decided to delete an old toon so I could start anew and try some of the only weapons I haven't used yet. My build, http://mmdks.com/aai , used spears for PVE up until I got the Chaos blade, then picked up the SKS into rotation, and finally added the lifehunt scythe.

I am simply amazed at how effective each of these three weapons are. Now I can finally say, I have given each weapon a shot, with a proper build, in pvp. I cant believe it took me over 1,100 hours to fall in love with the SKS. I two hand it exclusively and have been dodging buffed weapons and poking away in intense bouts that get my adrenaline going. I hotswap for chaos of lifehunt when needed, and they are both excellent weapons as well.

    I also learned, don't underestimate a non-magic build.

Has anyone else ever made a late discovery like this? I feel like I missed these weapons entirely for the past year.

Does anyone think I would enjoy trying an SL100 DSS and washing pole build based off of this? I have never had stats to scale those properly...

I make, and think about making, new builds; just to try out new weapons constantly, lol.

Without exaggeration I can say I have made a good 25 to 30 builds just to have them optimized for a weapon I want to try out.

Basically I have my original toon, and my first Dragon form build, (neither of which I can't bring myself to delete), my other 8 slots have been rotating for the last year, (sometimes hate having to delete a char).

i've just recently decided to make a build around the golem axe and the great axe. i'm level 48 atm and i am really enjoying wrecking everything in my path with the great axe so far. i'm also enjoying the iron round shield as well. i've never used axes or hammers before now.

    http://mmdks.com/aet

that's what my build currently looks like, i swap between the golem axe and the great axe as i feel the need. once the DLC gets patched i'm gonna go back there for Gaugh's armour to complete the set up.

i'm not sure where to take the stats from here though, more vitality and endurance for sure, but i don't know if i want to add some faith or a few points in dex for the composite bow instead of the heavy cross bow.

I was making a build focused on Gravelord Sword. It did pretty good until it got to higher levels, then the damage was meh. I was then I first discovered the Great Scythe. I've since deleted that toon and made me a Dex/Faith Great Scythe one

I made a build using a chaos server just 'cause I thought it looked cool. The server is now my favorite wep and I try to use Chaos wherever I can!

you never made a Dex build before??? the Chaos blade/Life hunt/SkS are all basic Dex weapons that can be used in a basic Dex build.

There's very few weapons that require you to make a specific build for them, the lines I can think of is grant, crescent axe, velkas rapier, moonlight gs/horn and gsoa. The rest you can use them on a str, quality or dex build.

Y'know i've never actually made a "Quality, Strength or Dex" build. I always make them around weps/spells. Should probably do it, seems like it would save time.

It saves a lot of time and it is one of the best builds in the game, those C/C Weapons hit so damn hard.

I overlooked these because I was focused on +15 weapons like uchi, Iato, swag sword, great scythe, etc. I always used a 40 dex A/S scaling weapon and buffed it. At SL 120, most using fast weapons were builds were dex/faith or dex/int.

Since I am capping most new characters at sl 100, It seems that non-buffable weapons have become more relevant. Even the gravelord sword is viable at sl 100 IMO.

Totally off topic, but Does anyone think I can make a viable DSS build at sl 100? The toon I want to use is SL 56 and has 18 points in faith.

Since i new bb glitch was coming i made a build for basically every situation. I have at least one build that can use any spell/weapon effectively. Thank god they increased the amount of save slots from demon's souls.

I see you mentioned the Lifehunt Scythe, and I personally believe that it is a weapon worthy of having an entire build made it's use. Why do I say this? Well it should be obvious!

One of the most attractive features of the Lifehunt Scythe is it's ability to deliver Bleed damage rapidly and efficiently, but it comes with a serious drawback. Every successful blow you deliver will also cause you to take Bleed damage as well, and fairly quickly I might add. So what items can we use to offset this?

Someone else care to finish my thought? happy

You don't have to, and in my opinion, you really shouldn't try to bleed your opponent with the lifehunt scythe. High base damage and good scaling are more than enough to make that weapon deadly. Just avoid spamming and use some pyro/gold tracer/any other weapon while figthing to protect yourself.

One of the biggest frustration (and turned into a delete, lol) was a Str build which could use Havel's Greatshield...

Personally, I felt like wasting 10 points and even Dragon Weapons couldn't make me feel better...

Now, I made a build only for Murakumo; then I saw that I runs amazing a Halberd + Composite counter attack build, along with Leo's ring; and then realized that 2Hed Claymore is a beast at this setup...

And the Demon's and Dragonslayer Spear scaling, and the possibility to use Large Club, and... and... and...

Well, Murakumo made me taste this amazing quality world and thus I love it forever! <3

I am usually ok with just the blood shield when I use my lifehunt scythe. Your opponent will hit the bleed point before you do, and it is still an awesome weapon without bleed.

One question though, If you strike someone with one bleed weapon, then switch to another bleed weapon, does the bleed stack? Like if you start the fight using a chaos blade, then swap out to a lifehunt scythe?

Well, if you have a build like that, go for it. But i wouldn't sacrifice a ring slot for extra bleed resistance when you can avoid killing yourself just by playing carefully.

Though i must admit, i have actually once killed myself with the lifehunt scythe. I parried a dude, somehow missed the riposte and killed myself lol He sent me a message where he actually apologized me for what happened big grin

    Parries and especially roll backstabs.

Yes, you can do that. Some people use priscilla's dagger in off-hand for that reason.

I build specifically for each weapon I intend to use once I'm reasonably sure I like it. I have a sl 200 that can use everything so I can test movesets.
