I have two slots, will I be best served filling one with GC and one with DF, or both with GC, or both with DF, and why?

Re: Great Combustion vs Dark Flame
Great Combustion is stronger than the Dark Flame (from my experience, could be due to resistances), but the df deals more stamina and poise damage, so it can be used to break turtles.
And a related question: Does the int scaling on the glove affect the damage of df, like strength does with dark sorceries and manus cat?

The resistance shouldn't matter, since Black Flame deals full fire damage, same as Great Combustion. As for the second question, I don't know.

Re: Great Combustion vs Dark Flame
GC is considerably stronger, but does very very very little chip damage to shield stamina if blocked.
BF will eat away at stamina and will break a Great Shield's guard in a few casts.

Re: Great Combustion vs Dark Flame
I've been using DF with my STR build, which right now I think is around 40ish, and has a relatively low level pyro flame, and I'm actually doing more damage with the BF. On average by around 30 or 40 points.

Hmm, on my dex build (16/40) with a max glove, GC did considerably more damage.

Re: Great Combustion vs Dark Flame
Well wouldn't that make sense though? Don't dark magics scale with STR and normal pyro's get stronger with higher upgraded pyro flames?

Pyro flame no upgrade on standard hollows by undead parish.
GC=214 BF=277
Flame +10
GC=372 BF=402
Ascended +5
GC= 592 BF=589
These damage values are with 16 str and 16 dex wearing bellowing dragoncrest!

Re: Great Combustion vs Dark Flame
I haven't used Black Flame, but judging from everyone's comments, it sounds like you'd be better served with 1 of each. Unless you prefer to minimize the number of different spells you have attuned, to make it easier to switch between all of them, then the versatility you'd get from both would be worth it. BF against turtles, GC against opponents with no shield.

Well there you go. It wasn't from my STR it was just because I haven't taken the time to upgrade my pyro flame yet.

Thanx y'all, you've been most helpful, and I've now decided to go with one of each.

Re: Great Combustion vs Dark Flame
My +5 asc glove had these numbers against a bloated head:
BF - 352
GC - 390
That's almost 40 poinst (or about 10%) difference, but in the example above it's 3 points difference against hollows. Could the bloats be more resistant to dark magic?
