Lag Issues: XBox vs PS3 Empty Lag Issues: XBox vs PS3

    Hi,

Can anyone who has dark souls on both systems please let me know if you notice performance hits to either system in terms of lag? (not interested in anything else, like framerates). Also, any other general network issues, such as having a hard time summoning a specific person on one system over another.

    Thanks!

Double post. Just going crazy analyzing my network and would love if there was a definitive "Yeah, its the PS3 network, nothing you can do" answer. PS3 is always, always way laggier even though everything on my network is the same between it and the XBox. Switched the cables, switched the router, no matter what settings I try it's laggy as heck.

What, if anything, am I doing wrong...?

i don't know about the XBox, but after i doubled my broadband the lag in Dark Souls hasn't been much of an issue at all (and apparently the PS3 only goes at 14 some odd mbs at its peak, i was only getting 5 mbs previously).

So when you say lag isn't a problem, what are you comparing it to...?

Standard definition TV wasn't a problem for me until I had high definition either...

before upgrading my broadband (PS3 was running at around 5 down and 2 up mbs) i would get the occasional complaint form other players about being laggy (phantom hits, teleporting etc.) i would also see many other players teleport around on my end as well.

since the upgrade (PS3 is now running at around 14 down and 6 up mbs) i haven't had any complaints and i have only seen one teleporter. i am also wining allot more frequently which i also attribute to the faster broadband speeds.

the only thing i have to worry about is how good the other players connection is and what region they are connecting to me from.

on a side note, that one teleporter i experienced after upgrading my broadband was likely using a lag switch. the match was fine for the first while, but after i started trouncing them they suddenly froze for a second and then teleported behind me and backstabbed me. the bastard.

I just downgraded my service and I have definitely noticed a difference. Definitely more people "bamph" stab me now. Yeah, and those lag switches... I had no idea up until a couple of months ago. So cheap and easy to get. It really explained a lot about my MP interactions in many games (mostly FPS) over the last few years.

Easy to make a lag switch yourself; just need a dollar light switch and some wire clippers (or a knife even).

PS3 also has a bigger worldwide userbase, so there's a greater chance on PS3 vs Xbox of being paired up w/ someone overseas. With that being said, it also increases the number of possible invasions, summons, etc... double edged sword and all.

^ it is a double edge sword, but i really hope regional is optional in the next game. Japanese(and other players on the other side of the world) are too consistently laggy. It sucks the fun out of the game for me, i would rather have to wait an extra minute for invasions rather then deal with laggy fights(which really is just wasting 3-5min or more).
