    High level invasions...

Post by Gazman0169 on Wed Nov 14, 2012 7:40 am

I'm thinking about taking my existing character passed SL120 as soon as the main purpose of my current run is done, but I was wondering if I should be looking to cap his development at a certain level in order to ensure that I can still regularly invade and be regularly invaded (it doesn't matter where), and if so what should this level be?

I have a main toon at lvl 242 that regularly gets invaded in the burg so you could go that high if you want but I have many toons at different levels and usually lower is better. I haven't had a single duel in battle of stoicism with my high level character so I wouldn't count getting PvP there unless you plan it.

I have many saves at all different SL`s although the two highest I have are SL150 and SL394.
The highest of the two does get invaded quite more then you would have thought. (Burg)
Also I have this save in the Darkmoons.
The SL150 is my Dark-wraith save,ie I killed Gwynever so I have no trouble being invaded.
Also it is OK for Invasions, more so then the SL394,but to be honest I do not see many reasons why you would take a build that high.

Thanks you two, you've been most helpful, and I think I may end up capping his development at around the 250 mark.

My Forest Hunter toon is currently at sl250... theres no level restrictions in the forest... I've invaded sl600+ toons there... theres plenty of action at high levels... i also really like the challenge of taking on the gankers...

beyond a certain point there are a lot of diminishing returns- but I like having a toon that can pretty much use anything... i still get killed a lot...

he was talking about invvading not getting in vaded, of course sl doesnt matter if youre gonna host but maybe go to the forest and you wont have any problems invading there since most gankers are really hight level. also if you join the covenant theres no level restriction to invading.

At a high level with enough sin you are pretty much constantly invaded.

The Cat Covenant Ring does actually have level restrictions. You can only invade -(10 + 10% of your level), and any level higher. It's the same formula as the Red Sign Soapstone - you can't be matched with players far below your level.

This means a level 100 Forest Hunter will invade the levels of 80 - 713.
    A level 250 Forest Hunter will invade 215 - 713.
    Level 713 will invade 632 - 713.

The idea that the forest is without level restrictions is a common misconception. happy

That's not completely true. I seem to have a much higher range in the Forest. I've invaded many many people way above the 10+10% (and that's based on the ones I killed, who knows how many total).

on my sl 99 i have invaded people that were sl 15 maybe even lower, i dont think people really know how the forest in vading works specially since FROM never releases anything about the game.

the ranges depend on the host and his summons and invaders.

    Trust me

if you get invaded by someone slightly within your range you get their range plus your own to be invaded by.

With my 626 toon in the kinlin I was invaded by a 164 and since he was in my lobby/world I could see the Red soapstones of people within his souls level and was able to sommon them. The same applies for phantoms of all kinds friend or fo.

Look again at the ranges I posted - invading any level higher is normal, that's part of the formula. What I'm saying is that the ring is restricted to the same range as the white sign soapstone on the lower end, but the upper end is removed. This means you can't invade far below your level (but you can invade far above your level).
RantFromRant wrote:on my sl 99 i have invaded people that were sl 15 maybe even lower, i dont think people really know how the forest in vading works specially since FROM never releases anything about the game.
I have done a good amount of testing of the Cat Covenant Ring. The lowest I've ever been able to invade was the exact level you get when you calculate minus (10 + 10% of your level), tested at more than one level. I've kept track of the souls dropped/ levels of hosts killed - over 100 with none below this range. Another player was skeptical of this, but then tested it themselves and found the same thing.

If you still do forest hunting, can you keep track of the souls dropped by hosts? At level 99, the lowest a host should be is level 79. If my formula holds up, you shouldn't see hosts dropping less than 3640 souls.

Just be sure to ignore souls dropped by summoned phantoms or invading darkwraiths. They can be a lower level than the host, of course.

The main character I use is a 180 right now, and in the common PvP areas (Burg, Forest, Kiln, etc.) invasions are still very frequent. I can walk away from the bonfire in the Burg and pretty much instantly get a fog gate behind me.

As far as invading goes, I don't typically invade very often, occasionally I do as a Darkmoon and I still get pretty good results since Darkmoons can invade much lower levels. Not sure how well this level would work as a Darkwraith since you would usually be invading your level and higher.

I'm planning to take this one to 200 and beyond eventually.
