Best PSOne game? (also PSP games)
I recently bought a PS Vita, and I have 13,48 dollars on my account, so I'm thinking of buying a good retro game to play. The PS Vita can play both PSOne games and PSP games. Name the best you can think of!

I just wish Diablo 1 was in the PSN store. I would kill so many demons and devour so many souls just to make it possible.

If you like action RPG's Brave Fencer Musashi is good. Castlevania Symphony of the Night will keep you occupied for a long while too.
Personally I think I have to say the Final Fantasy franchise. I think it hit its peak in that generation. 7-9 and tactics. You can't shake a stick at them. Chrono Cross is a great game too. Oh man and Xenogears. That was a great generation for RPGs.
Vagrant Story was decent too. Breath of Fire 3 and 4 were also good. Most of those are traditional RPG's, but they're all so good. Ground breaking games for contemporary RPGs.

Thats a tough question. I really like the dissedia games for the psp but I'd rent those first. The rpg/fighting game combo is not for everyone.
As for ps1 games, if I had to pick just one, I'd say ff8. If I can say more than one I'd tell you to listen to rant and add chrono trigger to the list.

Don't worry, just tell me all the games that you consider to be the best of PSOne or PSP, doesn't matter how many. I will research about them and see if I like them.

Some are repeats of rant but;
Final Fantasy 7-9 PS1
Chrono cross PS1
Chrono trigger PS1
Legend of Dragoon PS1
Legend of Legaia PS1(nostalgia goggles may be an influence here, this was my first game)
Final Fantasy dissedia PSP
Final fantasy dissedia duodeciem PSP (this is the sequal, so if you get this you should probably ignore the first one unless you care about the story {i don't, its just an excuse to make the fighting happen in both games})
Star Ocean PSP (its a remake of an older game, but it is about as action rpg as action rpgs get untill the ps2 era)

because ps1 was kindof the golden age of jrpgs. The focus on action and graphics now has a tendancy to detract from companies spending money on creative and engaging stories. Its not a universal truth, but its still there. Rpgs also age well. I spent many an hour playing nfs high steaks on the ps1 but its just no good anymore, the tech is to old to hold up to current racers (even crappy ones), where rpgs focus on storey means that advancements in tech don't have as big of an impact on gameplay.
I can offer some others though;
Spin jam PS1 (Puzzle game)
Vandal hearts PS1 (turn based strategy)
Parasite eve PS1 (think old school resident evil games but with a level system)
Legacy of cain. PS1 (really its not far off onimusha or dmc in gameplay, but its older than they are)
...................all I got for now. I'll post more if I remember any.

Re: Best PSOne game? (also PSP games)
Vandal Hearts 1 and 2 are both great super underrated games. It's a shame their attempt at a next gen sequel ended up so bad. Total waste of $15.
The original Resident Evils were good too. Ps1 has 1-3. Silent Hill 1 is a great game too.

I keep hearing great things about Grandia on the other forum Im a regular part of. I'm going to have to check that out. Star Ocean too. The only one I've ever played all the way through was from the end of time, or whatever it was, but I really enjoyed it.

I'm going to stick my neck out and suggest 'Shadowman'. The graphics weren't anything to write home about but that game rates as the weirdest I've ever played.
Oh and Soul Reaver, loved it and you can make Raziel dance like Elvis. He may not have had a face but he had a great a**.

The Legend of Dragoon

This whole series was great. Except silly Blood Omen 2. I've been patiently awaiting a next gen installment for awhile now.

So many good games for the PS. I do have a particular attachment to Medieval. I played through the entire game while snowed in over a 2 or 3 day stretch and just loved it.

Re: Best PSOne game? (also PSP games)
Medieval was one of the PS games that I really enjoyed.
I also enjoyed Metal Gear Solid... better than the sequels for sure. Praying Mantis was the best portion in the game, IMO.
Spyro was there... Aliens... there were a good amount of PS games. There were also a lot of good PS2 Games. Sadly, Sony is still selling PS2s, IIRC.

Re: Best PSOne game? (also PSP games)
I gave him the +1 for proprs on mentioning a game that I did enjoy a lot
Both Medievils were good. The PS versions. The Second Games was an interesting improvement, although it was a tad bit more linear... Hate the vampire kids... I really hate the sailor zombie level on No. 2. I only went threw the... machinery puzzle, once. I loved a lot of the levels.
The first one was really good... I found the levels at times, especially the forest, to be a meh. Like No. 2 though, there were a lot of great levels...
I hope to get both games for the PS3 some day.

I'm pretty sure they offer at least one of them on the PSN. I think I've seen it there, though I didn't know what it was, so I've never really thought anything of it.

In 2013 they will announce PS4 for 2014, so I doubt it. Hopefully they will release one for PS4. This generation is ending.

I hate the term Generation. People wise, not game consoles.
Still, be best to see a new system... I wonder how long it will take for no disc to be. be heading there, it seems. Rentals have died. Wonder how long a Gamestop or EB Games will last?
