I've been to The Painted World and bashed a few Harpies but no luck getting a drop. Oh well, looks like I'm going to have to bite the bullet.

Oh no! I'm trying to get all the Miracles for the trophy and to get the Darkmoon Blade I need 10 Souvenirs of Reprisal which means I've got to invade and defeat other players. Not to put too fine a point on it, I suck at PvP and whenever I'm invaded, I usually lose. I've never invaded myself, ever (no really) but it looks like I'm going to have to.

If you have 410 item discovery, it can be quite fast to get them from the harpies. I usually only go for the 2 harpies at the top of the tower near the bonfire and i bone out after i'm done. Rinse and repeat. If not, i think you can ask other players to drop them for you?

You can always try trading something for them.

Or you can go through to NG +9, and kill Lautrec every time

You can also get one from the Crow each time by trading it a Pendant. That would cut the NG+'s in half.

Morning Slake, do what I did (and as suggested by Automancer above) simply farm the Harpies in the Painted World. If you open up the shortcut to the bonfire, take them on one by one, come armed with a hard hitting weapon, and have a good supply of Homeward bones (to speed things up a bit), with a 410 discovery rate you'll have all the Souvenirs you need in no time whatsoever. Good luck... G

Instead of homeward bones use one spell slot for HOMEWARD. I never understand why so many people use the bones while farming. Unless you actually need each slot for farming..which i doubt. Just my advice. I carry that spell alot actually.
Honestly try trading. Alot of people want dragon scales, if you have any of those you could find what you need. Tip for getting easier wins. Go darkmoon invade at the forest, chances are you'll get forest coven people invading to help you out.

@passivefamiliar- Not everyone wishes to invest in the Faith stat, and so the Homeward Miracle will be closed to them.

Slake, I got mine in less than twenty minutes with the Harpies.
Time to break out the Lifehunt again! And the Black bow with feather arrows. No need to upgrade it if you're not archery inclined but here's what you do:
I'm sure you're familiar with where the two jump attack you. Get to that spot. Make sure your bleed gauge is all the way down from killing the hollows before making them jump at you. Run to the the back corner to make them spawn. This plan works best with aggression so two hand your Lifehunt and start hitting R2 the second they land. Try to position yourself so the sweep hits both harpies. They're SUPER susceptible to bleed and should die in two hits. Basically before they even think of attacking. Just start swinging the second they land and don't stop until they're dead. It either ends with them or you but it'll be over quick. When you kill those two pick up anything that dropped, don't let it get away. Then go to the corner of that roof that overlooks the courtyard. If you look kitty corner across the yard there are two more harpies on that roof. Using the bow and feather arrows shoot one. As long as you're standing on that corner of the roof you're on the one that got hit with the arrow will see you. And come flying at you. The key here is "Don'y Panic." It will fly right over your head and land behind you. Same thing as before, switch to Lifehunt while it's in the air. Lock on when it gets close and turn around and start swinging. Once that one is dead draw the other one across the courtyard and kill it the same way. That's four harpies in just a couple minutes if you do it right. The gold serpent ring and maybe some humanity to raise your item discovery and you should have them in no time

Thank you everyone. It looks like I'm returning to the Painted World again. The Harpies don't trouble me none but they all come empty handed. Still I'll keep trying. Maybe my luck's changing. Yesterday a Dark Wraith dropped me a titanite Slab for the first time ever. Mind you I've been renting a hovel in the New Londo Ruins for what seems like a year.

Yes the Harpies are the best way, they are likely to be faster than PvP even. If you want the fastest way, run past the phalanx blob enemies, into the church, run over to the Dark Ember, kill those two, run up to Karmic Justice? Or is it Vow of Silence, one of those, and kill those Harpies. Run into the large tower, and go up up up, then usually down down down (since one will usually drop it, and he will drop too). Usually, looking at 2-1 a run. It will be quick. The other ones are too far to be worth engaging. If you're stingy (sp?) like me, the bonefire is so close, you don't even have to bone.

Yeah.. I farmed the Harpies and did basically the same tactic Skarekrow13 described minus using Lifehunt (nice call on the bleed susceptibility)... I had a lot less luck though. It took me hours to get enough of those things with max item discovery.

Drop or no drop, I think you should still try PvP. You might find you like it.

Farming the harpies isn't that bad, especially if you kill all the phalanx guys away. Put on both serpent rings and cast poison mist couple times on the phalanx people, kill the harpies and homeward bone/return home miracle. You will find you have a decent amount of souls by the end

If you don't want to farm, then you could do this.
Leave the game on overnight, with your character standing in Darkmoon Tomb with the Darkmoon Blade Covenant Ring equipped. You will be summoned into other worlds and will most likely be killed since you're not actively playing the game. However every once in a while either another player will already be summoned and defeat the host for you, or the host will die in another way You will still receive the souvenir of reprisal and souls. Whether you die or not, the game will keep sending you into other worlds without you having to do anything.
(LOL)

Hooray! Got 'em! Went back to the Painted World and stalked the Harpies with my trusty bow. It was a bit hairy at times and a bit annoying when they fell off the roof and landed where I couldn't get at them but, far from being a chore, I found it quite an enjoyable challenge.
My heartfelt thanks to everyone who gave me advice. I will try PvP one day honest 'Jester'. However, if I left my PS3 on all night, as 'Wanderer' suggested, I'm pretty sure it would self combust but it was an interesting theory all the same.

No, it won't combust. Actually I got this theory from one of my sources. Then one of my friends tried it, and it actually worked.

No problem, Slake! It would have been good if these special enemies could be auto-looted but where's the fun in that. I've been trying my hand at PvP and i keep getting my *** handed to me in many different ways. =(
