    I know this topic has been discussed many times over before but I just got done reading another posting on it and it got my brain spinning.

    We all know this covenant is broken and at this point won't be fixed for this game which is sad because this covenant had such potential. Imagine for a moment if it was based more around the same principle as the forest hunters covenant where very early in the game you were given a ring with a discription explaining to wear this ring when black phantoms pop up in your world only in a very cryptic way that will leave people scratching their head as to what this ring is for.

    Now for the gravelords when they put their sign down or with this change it would not require a sign but something else that would send out black phantoms to anyone else online within their soul range regardless of what area the player is in. The player could simply ignore the black phantoms if he or she chose to but this would be unwise as the longer the black phantoms stay in their world the stronger they become and they will grow in numbers as well to the point that the player would see black phantoms everywhere. Now if the player is killed by the black phantoms they will disappear but a black phantom NPC much like the guy with the katana from Demon Souls world 4-1 will be waiting for you at your blood stain. If the player kills the NPC the cycle will start over again until the gravelord is killed. Now for the player to invade the gravelord he or she would simply put on the ring to invade the gravelord much like the forest hunters do now.

    What do you guys think, good idea or not?

    It's not broken (mechanically), just a bit odd and poorly understood. You could argue that from a design standpoint it could be much improved, but it works under the right conditions:

    A lot of people may still think it doesn't work right or is heavily bugged, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Because once you know how it works, you can spawn phantoms in a friend's world reliably. happy

    One of the most misleading aspects of the covenant is the damned 'Disasters are gone...' message. It should really say something like 'Gravelord Servant has been vanquished', because the disasters are gone part is only true if the phantoms appeared (which they almost never do in NG). I think it would've been a lot less confusing and less people would've thought the message meant there was supposed to be phantoms in their world. It's like... what disasters...? most of the time.

    I know that From likes to not explain things too much, but perhaps saying from the get go that NG+ is essentially required for having the black phantoms spawn certainly would've cleared up a lot of confusion. Low level gravelording is completely ineffective because you're matched mostly with NG players who will almost never see the phantoms. Target players in the level range of NG+ and beyond, and then it'll work correctly.

    thanks for your thoughts,

    I know it isn't broken mechanically but in principle it could be improved upon. If you have had good luck gravelording your friends thats awesome. I personally have had trouble getting invasions while gravelording or seeing any black phantoms from other players that have gravelorded me. I did not know about the NG vs NG+ to be able to see the black phantoms of which I think sucks.

    i've had no problems getting invaded as a Gravelord at low levels (30 and under) in Dark Root, Sens Fortress, Depths, and even in the Burg. i've had allot of two and sometimes three on ones. of course there are still times when i've had to wait between invasions, but never for that long and once it starts it gets to be pretty much constant. i couldn't tell if the invaders had black phantoms in their world or not though.

    i found that it helps if you don't have any sin while you're Gravelording, it prevents Dark Moons from using up an invasion slot and who wants to fight those overpowered blue monkeys anyway. Dark Wraiths don't seem to do that however, and i'm perfectly happy earning humanity as well as eyes of death.

    I have never been gravelorded in 1000 hours of play. Luck or something else?
