    Difficult bosses? Empty Difficult bosses?

Post by Zakkia Thu Jan 19, 2012 2:40 am

So I'm trying to understand other's struggles. To make myself more understanding on the aspect of why these bosses are tough. I can understand afew bosses.

Gwyn- I've fought him 3 times and I haven't been hurt by him once. With 2 other phantoms his health drops like wildfire. I may just try to solo to experience the true final bos mono y mono.

Four kings- I have only found difficulty in these with my early faith build. But I just put on full golems and attacked them with massive poise and low dmg from the defense. All ther times were very easy.

O&S- the very first time I fought these guys I died when I made super smough. In my opinion smough is te harder one. I always take him out first. I have never lost when smough dies first.

If I could get some enlightenment I would truly appreciate it.

    Thank you!

Most of the bosses don't give me any trouble. The ones I've been stuck on are:

O&S- obviously. These guys are brutal alone and I did my very first playthrough offline.

Capra Demon- For me this fight is always based on luck. If you're lucky you'll get past the enemies and get to the stairs with enough time to kill the two dogs then focus on the Capra Demon, if not he's going to one shot you and thats that.

Ceaseless Discharge- Coming right from Quelagg at sl 20 this fight was brutal for me the first time. This was the first fight I had to look up on the internet to beat. I used the hallway technique to kill this boss.

Bed Of Chaos- this was excruciating the first time I fought it. I went at it like a normal boss battle. When I ended up figuring out how to kill it it was about an hour and a half of memorizing all the pitfalls.

Those are about it. Every one of the bosses was a bit of a challenge at first, but these ones took me a while on my first playthrough and sometimes still give me trouble.

First time I saw the Capra and the Taurus Demons in the Demon Ruins I was like "Ooooooh F***". Then I took them out in 3 shots and was a bit disappointed.

If you haven't fought Gwyn one on one then you can't really speak about if he is hard or not. And the same goes for all bosses in this game.

Four Kings was easy for me I just don't understand what so hard about smashing them one by one?

Capra is a nightmare when you first start, but once you get a good shield he is not as hard.

O&S are the most organized of the bosses imo (both setting up attack plays to either do huge damage or to destroy your stamina) and can deffinately be hard, but go down with the right equips (dont they all?)

I think any boss with a overly cheap move is annoying, especially the bosses with "explosion" moves ie: Quelaag, Stray Demon, etc.

To be honest all bosses in this game are hard until you learn how to beat them, however that may be. (yes, even pinwheel and moonlight butterfly, though they are at the bottom of the difficulty list.)

O&S - simply due to the fact that smough doesn't stop spamming the rush attack where he tries to throw you into the air with his hamme GOD THE HITBOX IS SO BIG! :x :x :x :x :x :x

Gwyn - mostly screw ups really never died to him but nearly was when i missed a parry

Four kings - never had any trouble just stayed close to them so they wouldn't do much damage and wail away at them

Bed of Chaos - multiple rings of sacrifice were lost

Despite the fact that O&S is one of my favorite boss fights, the idea of soloing them is too terrible to contemplate. I have yet to make the attempt.

Also, Ceaseless Discharge is a pain in the ass. All it takes is one slip and I get squashed like a bug.

    O&S- for obvious reasons

Four Kings- not so bad on first playthrough but terrible on NG+ and onwards

Gwyn- Nightmare for me as I like to use greatshields but a very enjoyable fight none the less big grin

Gwyn + 4 kings are a joke if you go at them with the right gear, which however you can find extremely easily so i dont understand what people are talking about them being hard. You just have to have alot of defence and flasks and some stamina regen gear (grass shield) and just 2hand the hell out of them, making sure you heal quickly once you go below 50%.

the real trouble is bed of chaos and o+s imo, both of them are very hard

Bed of Chaos always seems like a complete nightmare to me...I know how to kill it, but the actual process of doing this results in the loss of many lives, souls, and the few remaining shreds of dignity I have!

I hate Smough's sodding hammer. The damn thing blocked nearly all the lightning bolts I threw at him without him even trying to use it for that. Damn thing was like an invulnerable barn door he would sometimes drop between me and him.

Capra demon's fucking dogs were actually the problem for me. Enter arena --> Roll his LOLZ1SHOTZ overhead smash --> Butch and Fido knock me about like a rag doll as I try to reach the stairs --> Capra 1 shots me. The first time I managed a lucky swing with my drake sword, 1 shotting both dogs, I killed the Capra easily as on his own he's not a problem.

I also hated the Centipede demon, not because he's hard, but because good god the camera is awful when you try to fight him. Even when not locked on I couldn't see ***, and half the time it was rammed into his torso, so trying to chop his tail was a complete nightmare. The second his tail went down and I killed it for the ring (I was sad, I was hoping for a weapon! So young...), I actually said out loud "Right, now you are going down", whacked Sunlight blade on and went apeshit on him with my Katana not even looking at where I was swinging. He died in seconds.

O&S are giving me trouble in NG++, that rushing hammer that smough does is a bitch. Coupled w/ the fact that I'm getting invaded every 4-5 minutes means I'm either going to be ill prepared because I waste my casts on the invader, or I'm going to die and have to restart...

Bed of Chaos gave me the most trouble in NG+, bastard kept swiping me into holes, but now thanks to Blaine he will be infinitely easier.

    I skipped Capra in NG++

For me I'll rank them in this order:

O and S: I did this at 70-80, alone. I wasn't aware of Solaire being avalible for this fight nor did I want to deal with invasions as I tried to cobble help for the fight. I also wanted to beat O last. It was a freaking nightmare and many many many failed tries until I got really really lucky and managed to win. Fondest memory I have of this game :O

Four Kings: NG it was slightly annoying, took me a few attempts to get it down but wasn't much like the other bosses. NG+ he was freaking insane, I could almost kill him with sunlight blade but then it would run out. Decided to try CMW and he fell the first run with that.

Gywn: I went in with Solaire, and I knew he was going to be overly aggressive, but holy crap was not expecting the damage I got delt a few times, took a few tries but NG+ it should be even more interesting. Decided to save Solaire again just to have him help with this.

Bed of Chaos: not thinking this wouldn't be annoying or hard I boldly went in with 99 humanity and several hundred thousand souls. First two bits weren't bad and as I get to the last section I didn't think the floor would break where it was and fell to my death, that is when my trouble began. I would run and get my bloodstain only to have the two stupid arms sweep me away or the red ones come down and kill me. I finally threw on a sacrifice ring, got my crap then rolled off. Went back and turtled to learn his moves before finally getting onto the branch and killing it.

And finally, Capra Demon: I only list this cause my roomate also played and fought him early on, totally got wiped around the arena many many times before he devised a way to do it. After being a little bit higher level than him and marginally better gear I managed to edge out after a few tries. NG+ went about the same, I only died once cause my lockon was on a dog that jumped, flew past me, exposed my back to the demon, and promptly got me jumped on.

I guess I don't understand your post. You say the boss is easy but you bring two friends and change your setup to make them easy. If you want Gwyn to be hard fight him alone without parrying. If you want S&O to be hard fight them alone. If you want 4 kings to be hard fight them in NG+ with the armor you like the appearance. Changing your build and summoning allies will of course make the fight easier unless your allies are just completely incompetent.

4 kings are easy even in NG+ (at least for a mage build). Block, cast, repeat til dead, flask, wait.... then repeat on the next king. I've never had a phantom help me w/ those guys. We'll see how they are in NG++, may change my tune.

If you have the right gear and the right SL, no boss will be particularly challenging in NG, and everything will also be pretty smooth in NG+. DkS lets you choose your challenge level.

Capra Demon seemed like a weed-out boss almost. I would beat a lot of people stopped playing after their fifth death-by one shot.

The four kings on NG+ are a nightmare(if not a mage) Gwyn is a pain untill you learn how to parry all of his attacks and for me Nito is extremely easy probably because of my div weapons

Hey guys! Great site. Just finished Dark Souls again (beat it twice, but not NG+, just a second character) and I love the game.

Interestingly, playing it through two times, I had different boss experiences. The hardest fight, I think, is probably Ornstein and Smough. Smough isn't bad, but Ornstein is kinda tough. I think I've used the Sun Bro and a helper anytime I get to that fight, just because it isn't fair if it's a 2v1 from the start, right? happy

Moonlight Butterfly is always easy, but I did stop paying attention on a low-vitality character and actually let it kill me. I felt pretty dumb on that one. Any high-vit character has zero issues with that boss.

Who else was tough for me... the last boss was tough first time around. This time, I had a phantom helper and he went down quickly. Solo though, he's pretty tough for me because his hits are strong, and also fast. I sucked down a stamina boost flower for him this time and that helped a lot!

To be honest, most of the game I felt like getting to the bosses was the hardest part. I had a lot of stupid deaths in boss fights that were totally my fault because of doing something stupid, so those don't count towards "boss difficulty".

Ceaseless Discharge, once I figured out I can get to the safe zone behind the rock, then lure him into hitting at me and whacking his arm, kinda trivialized that fight. He's not too hard to beat if you get in his face and do a quick double roll at the right times though. He's just difficult to beat because usually when I encounter him I'm around the 30's in level, if I remember right. I usually don't do a lot of dmg to him.

Anyway, what an awesome game. One of my favorites, if not my favorite. I love Demon's Souls too. Only beat it once though, so might have to revisit it. But now, to play Dark Souls with a Sorc, and then a Pyro! happy

All the bosses are hard the first time if you have no foreknowledge of them.

They can STILL be hard if you don't "specialize" for them

One of the most disappointing moments for me was trying to beat 4 Kings with my naked/club/plank shield build, (lv50). I had already beaten them 4 or 5 other times with other builds, (once at level 19). And after more than a dozen tries, only beating 2 of them once, every other time dying to the first one. I got frustrated, (it was about 2am), threw on the Black Iron Armor set, put aside the clubs and beat them with a claymore.

.....I really really wish I hadn't. Would have been far moe rewarding to keep at it. Now when I invade with my clubs I feel slightly less legit. silly
