The point of the knight shield? Empty The point of the knight shield?

    Post by T-King-667 Mon Nov 05, 2012 3:10 am

Im talking about the shield called "Knight shield" in particular. It weighs 5.5 which is alot for a mid shield and has low defenses for pretty much everything besides phy (all metal mid shields block 100% phy) even the heater shield blocks more fire and weighs only about 40% of the knight shield. is there a secret stat im missing to this shield?

I'm inclined to agree with you. I usually end up going with the Hollow Shield instead early on. You can get it right around in the same time, if not a bit earlier, the stats are a little better and it weighs a little less.

the only hidden stat shields have is deflection, whether an enemies weapon is more inclined to bounce off your shield or whetehr they can just keep comboing against your shield, sadly deflection does not work in pvp... also the iron round shield has the highest deflection of all mid shields and is lighter than the knight shield though it is harder to obtain...

so besides the fact that the knight shield looks cool it weighs more than most and has one of the worst defence stats of the metal mid shields? and the only one crazy enough to use it is petrus?

I've heard that before a patch (not sure which one) the knight shield was a very good shield... now not so much.

The only other thing going is that it's free. So classes that want 100% block physical and don't want to spend souls early (1k is a lot) have this option.

Its a replacement for the Wooden shield early game until you find something better. I end up with the grass shield and the upgraded crystal knight shield, that you find in the archives, for the rest of the game (when not making a build)

Regardless if its a early shield or not. most early/starting/end game equipment be it armour, weapons or in this case shields all equipment of each category are balanced one way or another. So why is this shield retarded? lol

I'll definitely continue to chose the hollow shield early on until I get something better. It's also free, unlike the heater, and it's superior to the knight's in pretty much every possible way.

You agreed with two other posters, one stated that it was a free early shield the other said it was pretty. I replyed saying that regardless if its free or pretty or whatever. All equipment be it early/mid/late/starting are balanced like he was saying ^^ he uses the hallowed shield and thats better in literally every way and that shield is free and acquired early on. The guy you agreed with mentiond that paying 1000 souls is expensive for a starting player. But facing a balder knight for the first time thats guarding the shield is tough aswel. My point is, it dosent matter if equipment is found early on/mid way/end game everything is balanced and considerd viable. Heck the tower kite shield, heater shield, spider shield are all better and they are aquired straight out of the gate.

Really? So that sword hilt is really balanced? How about the morning star you pick up early?

Because they suck too. Knight shield gets more use than those.

    Cracked Round Shield?
    Plank shield?
    Gargoyle ShielD?
    Bonewheel? only for the lulz

Astora Straight Sword (end game cause he's talking end game)
    Crystal Straight Sword
    Crystal Great Sword
    Caestus?
    Whip?

Only time you see these items are for the lulz, end game. Others have uses early game, but not many. Only Astora Straight Sword really, or if you don't know the game at all the crystal straightsword/greatsword could be bought.

The Morning Star doesn't suck. It's the only, at least I think so off the top of my head, hammer weapon that causes bleed. I use it as a back up weapon for my Kirk build. Suits the build perfectly and has gotten me out of a couple sticky situations to be sure.

The Crystal GS isn't all that bad either. It's disposable but it does decent damage and is relatively fast. Pop a couple quick upgrades on it and it's usable. I've been killed by it before.

Yeah, and it swings so slow its hard to get that bleed off. It's a bad weapon.

Hollow shield isn't a guaranteed drop.
There's no shield with 100% physical block for free so early.
This is the only reason I've used it.

It certainly has a place, moreso than a lot of other items.

I use it in tandem with the BSS, which also does bleed but doesn't break through guards as well, so if I'm fighting someone with a heavy shield, or heavier armor, I can switch between them, continue to fill my enemy's bleed gauge, and have an easier time breaking their guard, at which time I'll admit I switch back to the BSS, but it still has it's uses. If used correctly any weapon has it's uses.

Hallow Shield isn't a guaranteed drop, but it's not exactly a rare drop either. I usually get it without trying before I get to the Knight Shield location.

Although I guess I can counter my own argument by citing the Sniper Crossbow, which I've already established in other threads that I think it contradicts itself. It prides itself on being a long range weapon, but in order for CB's to be effective weapons you kinda need to be locked on with them, which requires a specific range. If you ask me that's useless.

The hilt and broken straight sword was only in the game to be turned into artorias's greatsword. Cracked round shield-your talking about a shield thats deliberately broken. Same with the plank shield except the plank shield is an old shield made from drift wood. gargoyle shield has high fire and lightning defenses. The bonewheel shields bash attack can actually be effective if the shield is upgraded, although the defense propertys are pretty terrible. But it is one of the lightest greatshields. Astora straight sword Is aquired early in the game and is fairly powerfull at that time. With the sword upgraded and decent stats this can be a viable pve choice all the way through. The crystal weapons are there to serve if you have either crappy stats or a temperary replacement if your current weapon is broke or not upgraded enough (gaping dragon with a +5 longsword probly just wont cut it) Whips cannot be parried but they also cant backstab. Thats balanced is it not? The caestus are actually decent? 30str/dex is around 300 dmg which is not bad for useing your fist's, if you have quality stats (40 str/dex) the caestus is more powerfull than the dragon bone fist. and it costs a measily 200 souls and you get it right away. I pvp with them somtimes and they work fairly well. Even made a rocky boxer build around them.

Sorry, should have clarified. I forget there's more than one weapon with that abbreviation. If you'd still like me to post the build I will though, but I can't till later. Gotta go vote.

the other advantage of hammer weapons is their brutal stunlock... when two handed they break 56 poise and then can lock people for a good 3 hits or more, all that and the morning star does bleed, thing is the reinforced club does bleed too and has much higher damage, only draw back is that it has katana like durability and may inflict less bleed build up per hit than the MS, also the bonewheel shield can be a serious weapon, that r2/l2 move can oneshot people especially if you make the shield lightning.

But you gotta think about pve aswel its not always about stunlocking or whatever but if a new player is stuck in blight town which weapon will serve him better the rein club or morn star?the club=better damage and morn star=longer lasting. So we can say that with the club might get you through faster because... well it kills enemys faster but you cant mess up much otherwise your weapon will break and you would have to get summond and beg for a decent spare (i was in that situation on my first playthrough)
