    Adventurer's Set - why?

Post by IV_Mark_VI on Tue Oct 30, 2012 2:13 pm

This set has terrible protection at a high cost; what is the purpose?

The only thing I see is that it is fairly decent protection for the start of the game. I bought the chest peice first time through and was decently pleased with it. But later on, this stuff costs more than Orn's armour.

So is this just an expensive bump early game to help you over some hills, just like Raw weapons?

I like the look of it, except the helmet, so I guess asthetically it's neat.

Pretty sure besides the light weight source of poise the leggings and gauntlets offer, it is just to look cool. Domhall seems like a collector, so he has very extravagant armor. What really surprised me, the helm is actually based on a real helm owned by Henry the VIII http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=05-jkGrYqDI#!

The gauntlets and leggings have helped me on more than one equation get that last bit of poise for a little weight.

I would love to take credit for finding that out, but it was actually someone in the forums who posted it a while back. I can't remember who it was though.

it's funny cause that is one of the last helms i would have thought was inspired by an actual medieval helm.

yeah I definitely assumed that set was just designed to be kind of overly fantastic and flamboyant.

Just goes to show you our world can be just as nutty and out there as any fabricated one.

It's one of the extravagantly expensive things of the game that are entirely useless ;D I still wonder why I'd pay for Gwyn's set.

Totally disagree with that BCC. Orn's set is quite good; it barely impedes stamina regeneration rates, so if you have a build that requires the use of a lot of stamina (dodging + spear) to keep people on the defensive, it's great.

I used it extensively for an Orn cosplay, and was really surprised with it.

Orns set isn't bad, i guess. There is ALWAYS a better option though, unless you don't have the ability to upgrade armor.

Assuming you're not glitching, when you beat O&S, how many pieces of armour will you have available that are better? If you focus on a chest piece, maybe that will be better, if you've acquired a number of chunks along the way and allocated them there. Same with Smough's. Eventually other armour outpaces it, but even then, I don't find it's by a huge margin.

I would say the knight or elite kight set is better then orns, even with the whole set +5. I don't have the exact numbers though.

I used it against Seath, it has enormous curse resist. I could just literally walk through the spikes without being hurt, also on NG+++ etc etc, so it has it's purposes.

I'd disagree. Elite knight chest +8 was marginally better than Orn's chest; you'd have to have the whole set at +7 or better, and on a non glitched playthrough, that's expensive and time consuming. You pretty much need to farm that.

Ornies' gear + spear (rhymes lol) isn't terrible but it isn't fantastic either, once again, you don't NEED to have the best stuff, don't obsess over stats, use what you think looks cool and what you enjoy. I don't use the Adventuer's Set often, but I buy it every now and again for **** and giggles.

    ?

What I mean is, I didn't think much of the armour until I had some experience using it. I noticed it barely affected my stamina regen, allowing me to pressure opponents more; keeping pace with them and being offensive. Also, when the commonly used grass effect wore off, I was at quite the advantage.

    Good protection, fantastic stamina regen.

Not sure what you mean with a Neutral face BCC. Please explain! happy
Edit: at the time, BCC's post had nothing but a neutral face.

Oh I see. Because the cosplay, it should be 'always'. Character wasn't BB glitched, so I didn't have the gear at the beginning.
