.........................I did that as well, but in 5 minutes or less. I used Havel's Shield for blocking and just spammed him with magic. Quite easy actually.

Well that's the difference
Try it like I did it:
-Solo
-Melee Only (2 handed)
-No Shield (I had grass crest on my back, but I didn't use it for blocking e.t.c)
-No Damage Taken
-No Lock on
-Kill in 2 minutes

Not trying to brag here, but for future attempts, all three of Artorias weapons are of great use for the battle. They offer a great moveset and the possibility to evade shortly after.

Well, you should used whatever feels the best in your hands. 
Just sayin', it offers a great moveset and damage for this kind of situation. But then, you could use anything as long as you know how to. Anyhow, like i said, congratulations.

Really? Then i advice you try them. They're great fun, as well as good weapons. They all deal decent damage as well as offering long range. Speed isn't too shabby either, so it's not exactly a bad choice of a weapon. Although if you're looking for a good weapon, the Abyss Greatsword with 10 humanity is probably the best one. It offer a great moveset for pvp and pve. In pvp i usually use the one handed strong attack whenever an enemy is getting back up from a backstab/riposte, and it's very effective.
