Blackmail in Anor Londo? Empty Blackmail in Anor Londo?

Post by Everynevers Mon Oct 29, 2012 1:50 pm

So I was attempting to get some help outside O&S in NG3 and eventually I was invaded by someone who y wanted to chat. It took me a little while before I could find my headset. I found that I was talking to some kid who must have been 15'ish and he told me that he essentially invades people, hides behind the Giant blacksmith and somehow forces the invaded to give him items in order to stop hiding behind the NPC. He said he got all the DLC items (except the Tracer) so far with this method because he couldn't afford the DLC. He wanted titanite Chunks from me. Funny all my reinforcement stuff is in my BB and after he found out I had nothing of any interest to him, he left.

I didn't quite understand where his leverage comes from... As far as I know, he can't do anything to the NPC. I would have to do the damage, right?

Sure you're trapped until the phantom is defeated but wouldn't exitting to the xbox/psn menu be way easier than giving into blackmail? Is the risk of a corrupt save that great? One could just put the RoF on, find a good hiding spot, and pass the time. Has anyone else run into this and is this a common online "farming" tactic, lol?

LOL... I guess people really want to kill him and entice him with trinkets until he comes out. I would just pull cable or challenge boss and HB out. I am not giving you my stuff so I can kill you.... lol

Inorite... I mean I really don't see why people would give him anything. I guess a sucker is born every minute, right?

I'd kill the giant blacksmith then to get to him. XD

Only because I currently have no use for him on the build I usually use. Or I'd just head off to the boss fight.

Yeah... I really don't understand why people wouldn't just enter the boss fog and blow a Homeward Bone rather than giving into TERRORISM... well, maybe that is a little extreme.

You know what they say 'there's one born every minute', and this lil **** is counting on that being true. Personally speaking I'd simply disconnect from the server, as there is no risk to the save file, before reloading my game, but I can imagine that there will be a lot of DkS players out there who do not know this, and having heard all of the tales about corrupting save files are willing to pay up just to be rid of him. One things for certain I'd luv to come up against him, as I'm certain that I could teach him a thing or two without aggro'ing the Giant Blacksmith in the process! twisted

Summon a phantom, let him fight him. Your phantom can't damage the blacksmith either. And if you move all the way to the edge and use a bow/spear, you won't damage him either, and you can hit him from both sides. Watch out for area of effect spells.

I had people hide a few times, and after they started getting hit from both directions, realized it was a bad call. Just have to intice them to let loose with their magic until they're all out, and play safely and not hit the giant.

Very true... with so many options to get out of the situation, I really don't feel very sorry for the people he'd tricked. He was nice enough to tell me about his trap, lol.

Can you just quit from the menu too? Personally I would just say "that's ok, I have a few things around the house I wanted to do. You just hang out and I'll be back to talk about giving you something later."

'Quit game' is grayed out when an invader enters one's world if that is what you mean. You'd need to quit by using the Xbox button to get to the dashboard. I'd assume PSN has a similar way but I don't have DkS for my PS3.

I've never been blackmailed. But there was a guy that hid behind the blacksmith ones, so all i did was crush a urn and use the chameleon spell and made some noodles. After 1 hour he was still there, looking for me. All of a sudden another phantom invades, and the guy that hid gets backstabbed OHK right in front of me. The other phantom crystalled out after 5 minutes. Shrug

In PS3 there is an extremely easy method to force invaders out: Log in to your profile and log off. Instantly forces you offline, kicks the phantoms, doesn't affect you in any ways and it is "save data corrupted" danger-free.

But, really. Lol, if that guy did that, I would have just killed him anyways, then absolve my sins, just like I did with the guy hiding behind the undead merchant, the phantom never saw it coming...

lol that reminds me of the time I was invaded in the Depths, and I ended up keeping an invader running around like a headless chicken for just under 45 minutes, after I chameleoned myself into a pile of slime in a corner behind the waterfall. The poor sap walked right by me twice, and in the end I OHK backstabbed him after he went about destroying everything in sight. The abuse that I got from him over the PSN afterwards was quite astronomical, and ended up making my victory a heck of a lot more sweet! lol

For sure there are lots of invaders trying to hide behind NPCs and everything, but isn't everyone giving a bit too much credence to his (lthe invaders's) words? With all the ways people mentioned above, it's really hard to believe that guy actually pulled this off. Sounds like that invader's just a bit too full of himself.

How about acid surge, poison mist and toxic mist? And then just turtle with a rapier that hasn't been upgraded whenever he tries to remove the effect?

I actually had something like this really work to my advantage once. Even made a couple of PSN friends out of it that I still talk to pretty regularly. I invaded this guy in Dark AL as a spirit of vengeance, and literally the second I materialized I started getting S#$t talking PSN messages. Saying all kinds of wacky stuff that he was going to like 'find me in real life and kick my a%#.' Good stuff like that. But meanwhile he was hiding somewhere with the fog ring and not moving. So I looked for him for like an hour and finally decided I'd hide behind his smith and just wait. See what he would do. So I started playing something else on my PC and just left it that way for awhile. So like an hour, and like 30 something more messages, later I start seeing phantoms being summoned. So I quickly messaged his phantoms and relayed that he'd been hiding and sh#% talking for the last hour, and forwarded one of his messages to me. I was hoping they'd walk in with him, juts to give him courage enough to reveal himself to me, then back off, but the one kid did one better. So he and a summon come walking into the smith room and he starts 'well what is it-ing me' from the other side of the smith, then comes walking back behind him with me, with his phantom coming in on the other side, essentially trapping me behind the NPC. So the second I start swinging, his phantom runs back out and around and steps in behind him. Trapping him in there with me. So his choices were either swing at me, and aggro his smith or stand there and let me kill him. We ended up doing a little of both. Fun stuff.

I totally hear ya and there really is no way for me to verify if his story were true. The only reason I think he was truthful is how the convo went. Kinda a gut feeling.

I liked presenting this scenario to the wiki community. I've really enjoyed the ways around it. I like the ideas about casting fog and vapors but I almost never have those attuned. I like the hiding ideas. I started doing that this weekend so I wouldn't be hampered when invaded while getting my characters up to the DLC.

HAHAHA! I wouldn't give him anything. Just challenge the boss. I don't see how that invader has any leverage (unless he invades hosts). If that were the case, I would suicide and block.
