I wish I understood....

Fellow players, i salute you.
There is something i really do not understand.

I have a maxed strenght character (99 stg), using GS of Artorias +5 or the great dragon sword. But, i do not seem to output a lot of DPS.
When i watch videos on youtube, i see people eating through Boss life force like it was candies.
Is my weapon choice wrong and, if so, what weapon should i use ?
I do not do any PVP (not good enough).

Oki doke from what you've said i'm gathering that you don't know about scaling

You have 99 strength, so you want to find a weapon that scales well with strength. This means you need to look for a weapon that has an A or S scaling in strength.

You can find these on the wiki. If you look at the weapons you are currently using you'll see that the dragon weapons dont scale at all so you're 99 strength makes no difference to your DPS when you're using it and the Artorias swords scale better with faith and intelligence if I remember correctly.

From my experience I would grab a mace or something similar but really I would need to see all your stats to give you a proper recommendation

Oh, and also you should really try PvP. Yes you will suck and get slaughtered at the start but it will expose you to other players builds and popular weapons/spells that are more effective than others. Find out if there's anything in particular that people use against you thats really powerful and try using it yourself. Getting a character really good for PvP can be a lengthy process and you may end up ruining alot of characters along the way

Yeah. After forty or so most stats aren't worth investing in much. The sword is only effective if you have stats pumped across a few categories

Demon weapons are what you'll want. When at +14 they mostly have S scaling in strength. Aside from the Demon Spear.

And where do i get these wonderful demon weapons, please ?

I was going to give a real reply until I read this post (which pretty much sums up my thinking). The 99 Strength that you've worked for is really A LOT of levels for very little return.

Except for specific weapon requirments, I would never exceed 40 Strength.

Shiva in Blighttown.

Farm the Demon Ruins, or buy them off Shiva I think he sells them.

Demon Axe has the most damage, but Demon machete has a very wide swing arc.

Demon Great machete+Dark moon blade+Red tearstone ring+Power within= Alot of damage

You could also use Pine resin or any other buff in place of DMB.

I'm wearing Smough's (spell. ?) set, but....boy...am i slow.... Is there another set that i could use that would provide me with a bit of speed while allowing me to endure blows ?

You can't upgrade Smoughs set, thus most sets will be preferred over it once maxed, although of course it still offers nice defense. There's havels, which offers a balanced defense between all elemental/magic and physical defense, and then there's the Giants set, which once maxed offers the highest physical defense. Black Iron is a good set as well.

I like the Paladin, its relatively light and offers pretty amazing defence, other choices are Black Iron set, Giants set and Elite Knights set

He'll still likely to be slow with those other sets too.

A question OP: Have you picked up the Wolf Ring yet on your travels?

You spelled it perfectly. The answer is yes but it depends on what hit you plan on taking. Other heavy sets might lessen your weight enough to help but to see a real difference in speed you might need to mix in some medium or light pieces or just use a lighter set. Typically you'll get hit less which offsets the lower defense. Other times you may want a specialized set to face a specific challenge

Also, if you wish to make a build in the future, here's the adviced stats, so you know when to stop:

Vitality: 50, possibly 60, though i'm not sure
Attunement: Depends on how much attunement slots you want, however i'd say stop at 34
Endurance: 40, stamina doesn't increase afterwards
Strength: 40
Dexterity: 40 (45 if you use magic and want the highest casting speed available.
Resistance: As low as possible. This stat is just horrible. Do not try at home.
Intelligence: 40, possibly 50 depending on equipment and sorceries you wish to use
Faith: Same as intelligence, but depending on miracles instead of sorceries.

Humanity: Although not a stat i just wanted to point out, it increases ?all? stats while active, thus it can be a good idea having lots of it active, as long as you're careful. Don't wanna lose 99 humanity. It also scales with some weapons like chaos weapons, or the Abyss Greatsword, however the scaling stops at 10 or 11.

Indeed, however, they weight less than Smoughs set, unless i'm mistaken. And i just assumed he's doing fatrolls at the moment, thus midrolls are faster.

Anyhow, if you wish to move faster with heavy armor, the Havels Ring and Ring of Favor and Protection offers equip load. Thus it can be helpful if you're on the edge of reaching the faster movement. Rofap gives less equip load though, however also offering health and stamina.

The OP is for PvE, not PvP.

He's looking for something that works with a 99 STR, so weapons would be:
Demon's Great Machete
Demon's Great Axe
Manserpent Blade

These would be my top 3. Since all weapons that are really increased by a high STR have a slow swing speed, having a good amount of Poise is almost necessary; poise is a stat that determines if you are staggered by an attack or not. They are also on the heavy side.

Smough's armour isn't what's making you move slow. What's making you move slow is your total equipment (including smough's armour) equipment load.

You have a stat, determined by your Endurance, called Equip Load. If your total weight is 50% of this stat or less, you will move at a faster speed. If lower than 25%, you move at the fastest speed. Since you are looking at heavy weapons, I would aim for Medium (50%) speed.

Havel's ring increases your total equipment load by 50%, and Ring of Favour and Protection increases it by 20% (as well as increasing your stamina bar and hit points). So likely Havel's Ring is what you want.

Can you list all the equipment you currently have equipped, your rings, and your stats? Then we can help you come up with the right armour. Smough's armour is just fine in terms of protection; looks hideous though.
