Bed of Chaos just kicked my butt, along with other bosses..

Post by JoeBroski09 on Sun Oct 28, 2012 3:30 am

So, I'm doing an Int/Dex playthrough, which I've never done before, in my LP. This is the main playthrough I've been doing on my PC, for the new content.

So, I'm trying to get this done, to the new content and all this other stuff, and I end up dying way too many times against Havel the Rock, Asylum Demon, Ceaseless Discharge, and now the Bed of Chaos.

This has just been way too many problems in this playthrough. I feel like such a beginner.

And I like it big grin

Don't give away too much, but is this whole DLC, new stuff, new playthrough, creating new problems for you in DkS?

The bloated Oolacile mages are pretty good at one-shotting me in the back while I try to run away from them. silly

My friend kept getting 1shot by the Asylum Demon over and over again. I've never seen that... More and more stuff in DkS just instantly punishing the player haha!

I'm playing again for the first time in quite awhile and I just had Stray kill me like 10 times in a row before I could even recover from the initial fall into the arena. Hands down my least favorite boss battle. So much is left to luck in that first like 5 seconds of the battle.

Ahh, dude, that boss needs to be read like 5 seconds ahead of time. When I family beat stray (i called it asylum demon) I was a freaking expert. I still am. Such a difficult boss.

Yeah I hear you. At this point once I get behind him after that initial fall I'm fine. He doesn't stand a chance, just because I've learned his patterns so well now, but so much depends on what move he opens with as your landing. It's frustrating. Especially when using a light armor build like I am now. I can't withstand pretty much a single hit.

Unless you have Fall Control and a fast and decent bleed weapon. I wouldn't say it's a pushover even then, but it's certainly not very difficult.

You could just roll to the right or left as soon as you start falling through the ground and your character will roll left of right instead of being staggered by the fall.. I always do that, and stray never hits me when I fall through the ground. Just roll to the right, quickly heal.. then get behind him attack.

Well, I've only had small difficulty with him with melee. Tanking is my specialty, and what I started out DkS with.

But I recently tried him with Magic, and, boy, you have to know his moves EXACTLY in order to know when to attack and when to run. You have to move behind him before he even starts to attack.

You're not alone. After the first try, I don't think the ceaseless has ever killed me since... but I die at least three times on every bed of chaos. Once after breaking the first orb, once after the second... then i get knocked into some damn hole in the floor.

And I'm hit or miss with the fire sage. Either it will kill me five times in a row as soon as I walk in the door with a jumping attack from the other side of the damn room or I'll manage to dodge that attack and kill it on my first try.

The Firesage is a matter of luck to me, because I like having low vitality...I know the Demon's moveset very well (and I usually kill the Stray very early), but the Firesage tends to troll me, jumping back so that his back is against the wall and then spamming the magic attack.

That Firesage in the Ruins is by far my most hated Boss. Such a jerk.

Wow. You're absolutely right. That works really really well! Just tried it. Helps you gain control of the flow of the battle right from the start.

Pfft. Don't brag. It depends on when you're going though the demon ruins. I usually do it before the other lord souls because I want the sunlight maggot. I usually have a plus 10 weapon and few spells, if any. Melee, these guys are actually fairly easy for me, though. But if you try ranged, it's like a castor battle. And the fire sage and stray can totally kick your butt if you let them do their spells.

Yes, I know. He isn't that hard, when you know his moveset. But on my first playtrough he was HELL. And I still hate him for that.

Ah, never tried ranged. Always felt like cheating (gaining an unfair advantage)...

Then again, if being ranged means the bosses change up their move set, I might give it a go on my next play through.

It was my first play through and first attempt. I was really surprised when he started bleeding and his health started melting. I guess I never got a chance to see his harder attacks :/

Firesage and Asylum's fire attacks are tricky to dodge if you get caught in the center, otherwise rolling in the opposite direction (or unlock running) gets you out of range...most of the time.

Also, Stru, the Demon Firesage might seem easy, but it really is an opponent you shouldn't underestimate. The vertical attacks have some really deceptive range, especially the jumping attack; they deal a lot of damage and have 1-shotted me many times on my SL 1 toon at full HP. It is actually an opponent that is only easy for melee, but the range of his moves make him quite a pain for distance fighters.

Ever try giant smough ranged? Impossible. At least, with pyromancy.

Tried Giant Smough, but it was melee. Didn't even know he had ranged attacks.

Though if you were ranged, you could just abuse the pillars?

He doesn't have ranged, but he will indefinitely charge at you. And he doesn't get stuck on pillars often. Heck, you get stuck on pillars when backing up and dodging his charges. I once did a no shield play through with a Pyro, and i was like "ill just use my fire orbs and destroy him" and i dodged him for 10, 15 minutes, at a time, and i might have hit him once every other death. His hammer keeps ranged attacks from hitting him like crazy.

    Interesting.

I used no shield and went 2H melee when I went against him.

It was really easy to get him stuck on pillars and he spent most of his time either doing the lightning aoe or the hammer strike.

Yep. Those are his close range moves. He only has 1 long range move, and it will shield him from ranged attacks and one shot you.

I just defeated BoC, and I am very annoyed.

Like you greenless, he killed me (more like knocked me into a nearby hole) after clearing the first orb, then after the second orb, and when returning he just kept knocking me in the holes. Then looked at my setup re poise and stability of my shield, and once I did that, I ran up to him, and saw the root in the hole in front of him. drown down, ran up through the middle, and once inside, two-shotted the "thing" inside BoC with my gargoyle Halberd+14, instant death. Could not believe how easy it was to kill, yet such a pain to get there in the first place. Godo example of you just cant run in and swing away, gotta learn and read, even if it means dying a couple of times. Only annoying thing is that there is no real close bonfire for BoC.
