What's with the massive backstab crit on the Estoc?

Post by Back Lot Basher on Sat Oct 27, 2012 3:12 pm

I'm stumped on this one. I have a Faith based character with both a +5 Divine Estoc and Balder. The stats on my screen show damage being pretty close on each. However, I've noticed that backstabs with the Estoc are much, MUCH higher (almost double at times). Yet the critical modifier on both is 100. Is there something I'm missing here? Why would backstabs with the Estoc be so damaging?

Thrusting swords have a hidden crit bonus in addition to their listed crit, if memory serves.

So this would also apply to rapiers and the mailbreaker, then? Interesting. I really like the Estoc's moveset too. It got nerfed in the patch, so you can't hide behind a shield anymore without losing lots of stamina, but the quick strikes are great.

It should apply to other thrusting swords as well, from what I have read. Haven't seen any numbers on it, but it does seem that way from the backstab damage you can deal with them, at least.

My only issue with the Estoc is that it's described as a good slicing sword. Real estocs don't even have sharp edges lol.

    Hidden Bonus.
The Estoc has a 1.2 Bonus on Crit damage.
Richard's Raiper (''Jester's Raiper'') has a 1.5 Bonus like the Bandit Knife. Dunno why but it's the Best Parry weapon. (IN MY OPINION.)
