    Midrolling Against Dark Magic

Post by DamageCK on Thu Oct 25, 2012 4:54 pm

My Arena build is a midroller and I'm anticipating a lot of sorc builds with the new casts. Any midrollers gone up against 'em yet, and how'd it go? I'm on my way to the arena now.

What is your build like? Can you take a hit? Im using the pendant makes it useless for them.

I take it you haven't met the oh so friendly pursuers then?

AKA: people are saying that they crash into you after the pendant is used.

Magic, and really all spells, are being spammed pretty excessively in the arena. Soooo midrolling might be at a disadvantage. You can always use GMB or that new pendant.

I wouldn't suggest relying too much on the Pendant, as a follow up Crystal Soul Spear to the face whilst you're stuck in the animation is going to hurt lol. If you go out of lock-on range, the Pendant works a treat though.

I haven't tried to mid roll through it yet, but there are videos of people fat rolling through it so it can be done. Probably needs a bit of practice though!

Oh man, i'm sure it has been said, but Pursuers+Dark Bead....So OP. I am far from a skilled sorcery caster, and i was just destroying people with my mage build(that had only 14poise)

if the enemy casts pursuers DO NOT go in the open, stay by a pillar and peg him with a bow till he comes close causing the pursuers to trigger then side step behind the pillar and problem solved.

I thought only hidden body caused those to not trigger.

As for med roll, you'll eat a dark bead if you roll through the pursuers. I think most mages have learned it's flaw and now shotgun you. I don't think you'd clear enough ground to roll stab either. GMB?

I have, and it's a pain in the *** avoiding. The pendant isn't very effective either. It only seems to delay the inevitable. I may not be a pro at Dark Souls either. But at 50 vitality with Rofap and full Black Knight set +5, dark magics can kill you in 3 hits almost no matter which one, that seems kind of OP. But maybe it's just me. sad

I'm a 27/40 Crystal Hal/Leo build with Gough's greatbow in the offhand. If I can trade hits, it's going to TONS of damage. It's a sick build and I've been doing REALLY well outside the arena, but that's going to be my biggest biggest obstacle. The midroll is just for the poise to trade hits. Guess I could swap to a faster loadout against caster builds? I don't know. About to hit the arena though.

What Glute said seems to be the best option if you face it, unless you can somehow master the timing of rolls.

Try keeping a distance and keep some sort of faster bow as a back up could probably be an good option. Shielding does not seem to be a good option either, it goes through some of the shield + taking a lot of stamina. Good luck though.

Well I only meet dark magic dudes when I'm on a 5 or 6 game win streak....then I see the dark magic cast and I'm like FML here we go again....its pretty OP Damage!!

I'm running a 20 str 40 dex build that I have been med rolling in full Gough's and leo halbert/BSS....ummm btw how OP is Gough's set 53 poise and like mid 300's physical and 380 or something fire defense....come at me with that chaos weapon bro lol!!!!

I have been destroying people with melee builds....but eventually I hit a dark caster and die...I pulled a creat shield I assume those dark casts are still magic? Even tho the black flame is physical I'm so confused by the dark stuff.....the crest seems to block a lot of it so it must be magic I guess!!

Yeah it's still mostly magic so Crest shield should still block a lot of it. I've got the weight to spare for a Darkhand as pretty much my only shield option, but I'm pretty sure it'll get blown back by some of the dark casts. I love this build though, especially since I added Gough's bow, but I'm going to have to come up with a gear loadout I can fastroll in and still be able to tank some of the lighter weapons or the whole thing falls apart against melee/caster builds.

The Dark sorceries do some physical damage, but unless the caster is using the Manus Catlyst which increases the phyiscal attack of the Dark spells based on strength stat, I think a high magic resist shield is the way to go if you plan on tanking the spells.

You can always just use GMB. Faith always and has advantage over Int with that single spell.

Didnt spend alot of time doing it, but I tried my mid roll str build this morning.... the persuers are a pain. The beads can be dodged with the right timing (find an enemy with them and just practice rolling through or sideways, worked wonders for me). Most of my success came just being entirely aggressive against casters (as is always the case Im sure you know, bein another mid roller), takin a persuer sucks, but if you have the hp and can stay close, you can interrupt it and cause major damage with stunlock etc. Worked good for me anyway

Stick to the ruins and not the dias, ive came across many spell casters in the dias its pretty exciting when i dodging spell bombardments with my fast roll ut for mid rolls id recommend the ruins its all about using the enviroment really.

I played in the arena twice and won both against melee builds, but now I'm working on a bow bait/lure build that I call Tacklebox because I always feel sort of trapped when I've only got one build to choose from. I swap builds out A LOT. Haha.

I actually got a good streak going for once last night managed to get a 15 game streak including 3 chumps that disconnected(sooo annoying) and several draws....then I hit my 1st presuer spammer of the night got him the 1st time then he got me and got me again but he had no health left like under 50 hp...and I was like oh ya I'm going to at least tie this guy and keep my streak running....so I drop down with little time left and the chump and gone and hid in the ruins....I ran around looking for him and finally found him....so I did a CB running attack and battle ended just as I would have hit him fml!!!

Oxy was telling me people are playing really defensively in the arena, shield up the whole time, barely throwing out attacks, and people are backing out when they're losing or take off running when theyre up. If I have the same experiences, I'm just not going to play in the arena at all. I'm not havin' that bullsh*t. I want a FIGHT.

I'll just host in Oolacile Township. LOVE that spot for PvP. It's perfect.

It's the truth, I met someone who turtle the whole fight after winning the first round for his precious streak.
