Advice for a full Archery Build Empty Advice for a full Archery Build

So, in my attempts to see this new patch to its fullest, I made a new character, and wanted to try a class that most people completely seem to forget; The Hunter.

As such, I stuck purely with range, and honestly, it has to be my favorite way to play this game now. However, it seems there is some ins and outs I don't know, and am slowly learning. I come to ask for more assistance maybe. Here is what I have so far.

Dex Bows are Composite, Black Bow of Pharis, Short, and Long Bow.
Str Bows are Dragonslayer Greatbow and Gough's Greatbow
    Divine Bow is Darkmoon Bow

Composite is the shortest ranged bow, but highest general damage output.

Short bow seems to have a fast firing speed, but low damage

Long Bow is the midpoint bow. Good damage, good range, average fire rate, the overall balanced bow

Pharis Bow has the furthest range, and a slow startup rate when you attemp to fire. Interestingly enough, when you start to shoot someone, the first shot takes a bit, but every shot after seems to be a bit faster. Maybe its just the part of the animation where the character probs the bow.

Have not gotten to the Dragonslayer or Gough Greatbows yet

    Haven't gotten Darkmoon Bow yet.

Headshots break poise almost no matter what, and are considered crits if I'm correct. No clue if effected by the hornets ring yet.

Arrows matching the Bows attribute empower the bow. Fire Arrows empower Fire and Chaos bows, Moonlight Arrows Empower Divine/Occult and Magic/Enchanted bows, and regular are just regular.

The Hawk Ring seems to increase Arrow range alonside the bow range. Meaning heavy arrows can shoot much further increasing damage output heavily.

Tap firing is one complete animation of shooting the bow, while hold firing allows you to control, or even cancel the shot. Tap firing is when you simply tap the button to attack. Hold firing is when you hold it throughout the whole animation. While holding, you are allowed to roll, breaking the animation. There are a few frames you cannot roll

    Wooden Arrows are completely useless

Poison arrows are the Anti Turtle arrow

The Grass Crest Shield is a good secondary in order to keep your mobility up.

Damage is increased with the RTSR and Power Within. resulting in 90% bonus damage. With high mobility, you should not have an issue with being low health

In close quarters, the Short bow (and possibly composite bow) are the best option for higher fire rate. Poise is also a must have, in order for you to not have your shot cancelled

With proper timing, a low poise enemy will be rendered unable to fight you. Prep an arrow, and wait for them to charge. Before they hit you, fire. It will stun them, and give you enough time to prep another arrow.

If you plan to master bows altogether, then put STR, DEX, FTH, and END at 40

Thats a hell of a lot, but does anyone else have any tips? Bows are amazing IMO, and have changed the way I play completely. If I do need a melee weapon, I keep a bandits knife, but normally I don't have to worry.

I don't mind the avelyn, but the others are useless to me. The animation for the light and heavy crossbow force you to be immobile the whole animation, and they don't do practically any damage without upgrades due to no scaling. The avelyn and the sniper crossbow are the only two I like. Overall, without aiming capabilities, crossbows just dont compare to regular bows.

However, the avelyn is very nice when I need to block incoming things and want to still be offensive.

I'm putting fogether a bow bait/lure build that I call "Tacklebox". It has comp bow/Estoc in the main and Darkhand/pyro glove in the off. FaP/DWGR for high stam/hp and mobility with lots of i-frames. Basically I lure them in close with arrows, usually poison, and then either parry/BS/GC. At first I thought it was too dirty for the arena, and then I actually hit the arena on my midroller. Apparently, nothing is too dirty for the arena. Haha.
