A word of caution when using your main toon on DLC (no spoilers) Empty A word of caution when using your main toon on DLC (no spoilers)

Ok, so I've seen polls with "what character are you gonna DLC with?" My plan was always to use my one true character, Farmer Tarkus.

Well now, Farmer Tarkus is on NG+++ and I'm learning a few things the hard way. This is not a bad thing though, but to those who are intrigued on if starting with different characters will lead to a different experience this might be a good place to discuss.

First, no spoilers (or at least major ones). For those who want to be completely in the dark (like me) I'll play it safe.

So the DLC has a boss pretty early in the going. I wondered how scaling with NG+ etc. would be. This went about as expected. When it hits, it hits hard. Even with mostly Black Iron on, it hurts ya bad. Still, with a SL 224 character.....I hurt IT bad too. I needed only two tries but I chalk this up more to a good intelligence/recon mission my first time. I got him to show me every attack I think so round two was out of surprises.

Then I got worried. The mobs in NG+++ were similar to my experience with this boss. IF they hit, they hurt me pretty bad but it's easy to not get hit and I can kill them in one or two shots. AKA, very little threat. Sooooooo.......the mobs are designed to make you pay. At least so far. I'm only in the first major area. Mainly because I had to work my way through old content to get to the DLC but also because I was in need of preparing to die again. A good deal. All mobs hit hard. Some I can hit hard. Others, I scratch. With a +15 Great Scythe. Oh yeah, it seems AI has been improved. For instance, I would like to draw out enemy A with my trusty Black Bow and feather arrows. They don't see me, I'm barely in range, surely ONLY enemy A will come running. Wait, what's that? Enemy B? Ok don't panic......enemy C? Uh oh, I still got this.....why are enemies D and E coming too?

    Run away! Run away!

God I had a blast last night

My NG+14 guy is going to have fun! Glad it doesn't get any harder after NG+7 though, Four Kings are a nightmare and the DLC is pretty damn hard from my PC experience. bounce

So far I agree. The DLC is definitely made for the veterans from what I can tell. I admit I'm not far but that's mainly because dying sorta puts you back a little bit.

    First experience with mobs:
Me: This place is pretty cool looking. Familiar yet new.
    Them: Ha ha..We exist
Me: I see you, you don't appear to see me though
Them: Not at all.....tra la la la laaaaa
Me: This is a pretty specimen of flora
Them: We're still singing tra la la la laaaa
Me: What's that sound? AHHHHHHH QUIT STABBING ME!!!!

Actually I got my shield up in time but barely.

I did the same as you, started on a NG++ character. Took a few attempts to get past the first big fight, but once I figured out how to avoid the attacks, no issues.

The mobs are definitely smarter. Multiple times I did the same strategy as you. Shoot one to try to lure it out. In one case that one I hit didn't even move but his buddies came after me.

    I ran.

    and ran some more.

Then got my courage up and went back and let him smash me.

Good times. I am not very far in at all as I too had to complete a few tasks to get to the DLC. Lots of fun last night, just dissapointed that I started so late, so I did not have much time.

On a relataed note, great to see that a number of troll messages have already shown up. Really, you think I should jump off this cliff? But, there were some helpful ones as well.

I'm kinda concerned because my main toon is pretty high in level (500's) and because I goofed and had to take him into NG+++ to get the last weapon for the completionist achievement, this DLC is going to be... interesting. I don't think I'll see too many summons signs at my lvl and things are going to hit hard.

Though... I did the opposite of taking my most powerful in first; yet, encountered this same thing because I first tried with my SL49 toon. I've kept myself in the dark about most all of the details I could. That shock of the first encounter really gave me flashbacks to my first day playing DkS.

I too traversed this toon through the old content to get to the new stuff so I ultimately ended up not playing very far into the DLC. At SL 49 in simple NG, I was stomped badly for the first few (5+) attempts. Though I got him down to about 1/4 eventually I saw that I needed to probably take this toon through some more content for more armor options probably needed later in the DLC.

2nd toon I took was my 99 SunSister (NG). This time I helped a few others out to learn a thing or three. Glad I saw what I did. It took two attempts and I was lucky enough to get the same helper twice. The first time he got me the tail as I was dieing, lol.

I love that the new mobs tend to link. I didn't really feel their power until I was ambushed by what seemed like 10 jumping over a ridge like Robin Hood's Merry Men.

Going to be so much 'funstration'. A word of caution when using your main toon on DLC (no spoilers) 639795459

I was such a newibe I just spammed all my long range weapons (moonlight grt swrd, golem axe, and for close range the grant,) its easy to kick but with everything when you can use everything on a 626 toon.

I went in with my NG++ dragon, and I have to say I did quite a bit of retreating myself. Actually tried to fight the first couple of bosses naked, which was definitely a challenge. I think what I had the most trouble with thus far though was the guardians in the forest. Not even necessarily when they mob you with the new ents. Those things hit REALLY hard. They aren't messing around at all. At almost 40 VIT in NG++ they were killing me in around 2 hits as a dragon.

I have similar vitality with my 225 with 50% Black Iron and RoFAP on and those hard hits can take over half my life.
