Man, those forest invasions can be relentless...

Post by Back Lot Basher on Tue Oct 23, 2012 2:19 pm

I've never been one for fighting in the forest, unless I'm just waiting for a 1 vs 1 duel. But last night on NG+ with a cleric, I wanted to get to Sif and beat him so I could help people with the Kings. I wanted to have someone help me, so I summoned a guy. 5 times we were invaded just trying to make it through. Luckily the guy I summoned was VERY good, and he did all the fighting while I mostly watched. The only time I jumped in was when the invader retreated into the Ents, and I took them out.

I'm sure the invaders thought we were ganking, but sometimes you just want to get through without getting caught up in duels. Too bad the place has such a bad rep now.

    What's the bad rep?

The reputation for being home to all the gankers (well, at least until the patch put an end to that).

if the invader runs away and your intention is to kill Sif, just go to Sif.

Honestly the forest just isn't for 1vs1. If you want to host there and look for 1vs1s, that is your choice, just don't expect people to bow or not use hornets ext. I actually like that the forest is the lawless area, and kind of get disappointed when i invade and there is a host bowing just there trying to duel. There's plenty of other areas for that, the moonlight garden being one of the best pretty much exactly the same.

I was in there last night and it was a different place after the patch. No more twinkle-toe-tanks flipping at you. Instead, it was mostly fast-rollers with 40 poise and a few medium-rollers trying to get used to not being able to dodge every attack. If my brief PVP experience last night was a preview of what's to come, I am a happy man.

Praise the Sun the DWGR was nerfed!

Ahh, the Forest... Place where one becomes true warrior...
Man, that sounds almost poetic :-)

Anyway, I love Forest, being defender that is. You are always fighting against all odds since most of the time you're alone against two gankers. But, there is no other place that gives such a thrill when you defeat both of them. One can really learn how to isolate one enemy and how not to miss BS or parry/riposte.

That's fine in theory, but the guy I summoned assumes the fight is on once we get invaded. If he wants to scrap before we go in, fine...I'll oblige him that.

See, you can almost play devil's advocate when it comes to the forest. It has a reputation for being the place where all the bottom feeders hang out. But in the spirit of the game, last night, I was just another guy trying to get through an area to fight a boss, with one summoned helper. I was wearing a black cleric robe, black leather boots and gloves. Zero poise, and carrying an estoc. I didn't cast a single miracle. Not exactly a ganker profile. But those guys were invading MY game, so if they don't like fighting two people, then they need to find a more serene place to invade.

thats because hes there to gank, not kill sif. regardless of what your intention is.

I see your point. If the majority of summon signs are people looking to do this, then I suppose it cheapens the "spirit" of the game. Although I must say, any time an invader meets three people, even outside the forest, he or she is still getting ganked, intentional or not. But there's no way around this, without interfering with the co-op aspects of the game.
