The lag is absolutely unbearable. Lag stabs worst than Demons Souls, people hitting you from a mile away, point blank hits that you HEAR connect but do no damage. It's just a mess.

Am I the only one having an absolutely miserable experience with the PVP?

I've been told it depends on the person you're currently fighting against. If it's someone close to you geographically, there will be less lag, and if it's someone far away from you, there'll be a lot of lag. I'd also wager it has something to do with the respective connection speeds of host and invader. I've yet to experience any serious lag myself, though I've seen some pretty awful cases of it in PVP videos.

PvP is figuring out how to deal with lag as much as it is killing the enemy.
You have to remember that the enemy is always slightly ahead of what appears on screen.

The beautiful thing about invading is if you die its no biggie. Just collect your souls and get fighting. You can encounter more lag, but theres no real downside to losing.
Hosting is the opposite. Less lag (theoretically) but greater risks.
But above all just keep going. Its a part of the game which eventually it wont matter to you if you win or loose, since it all seems to even itself out anyway.

Take a break for a few days, I'm doing it right now. It was late and I got really mad at a guy spamming 2H R1 with a curved sword and stunning me after one hit while I had 53 poise. I couldn't land a parry and couldn't tell it hacking or just weird lag. It's the little things that make you think too much into it that will snap that resolve.

It happens, but it shouldn't be super frequent unless your internet is crap. Are you using a wireless connection? That might be the problem.

Hopefully the next game will have dedicated servers like Demon's Souls, that should help with the lag. Other then that, PvP just has an even larger learning curve then then PvE. Especially with so many people who have been playing the game religiously since release, it must be hard to try and get into it late like this. As for you hitting people, hearing it connect, but not getting damage. There are frames in a roll that make you invincible to damage, this is especially true with the Dark Wood Grain Ring which has more then any other type of roll. There are a lot of little details like that, you need to know them. Kind of like a fighting game, you can mash buttons but you won't beat anyone who is skilled.

IDK, DeS had some pretty nasty lag at times too. My lag isn't bad though, it mainly hovers from good to annoying. On occasion, I have run into 2+ second lag, front stabs from across the screen, or a teleport BS. (and once into someone using a lag switch).
It may be related to your internet connection, and the time of day you PvP in.

There is always the option of dueling people you know(or meet on forums), that usually tends too be the most enjoyable pvp. I'm lazy though and like to just sit and invade/wait for invaders in the more populated areas. Cause of that i tend to have some bad pvp experiences, but not enough to make me not want to play(well i have had some pretty horrible sessions lol).

The lag is bad sometimes, no doubt about that. As for the hits that do no damage, that's a bit of skill on the part of your opponent. If you dodge at just the right moment, the hit won't technically deal any damage. However, bleed, poison, and poise will still build up. Some guys are really good at it. I once dueled a guy who I hit about 15 times, but dealt no damage to. I know he wasn't hacking because I showed up a few minutes later as an invader. He missed a roll and I stun-locked him to death.Death132 wrote:The lag is absolutely unbearable. The lag has never really been that bad for me so it may just be your internet. I have had cases of flying 50ft up in the air, teleporting and then being lagstabbed but those cases are few and far between. I have had some miserable PVP experiences but I'm in the forest so that's a given.
If you want my advice, either give Dark souls a break for a day or two and use a wired connection ans that should improve the lag a bit.

the lag can be pretty nasty for me, and geographically for me it happens more often than not. Discovered a few DS players locally and discovered how the geography actually does play a factor in lag, had an awesome jolly co-op encounter, virtually lag free.

I've seen a lot of threads and posts about this, and I've often wondered if the PS3 has more problems with this because of the sheer popularity of the system for Dark Souls. I play on the Xbox, and I don't get much lag. But then again, I probably never play people from as far away as Japan. Can that distance be a factor?

I know all of the mechanics. I've been playing since Demon's Souls. The thing is my attack will land before any roll is even seen from my opponent. And most of the time I will be 4 or 5 ft out of range and still get hit.
Demon's Souls had god awful lag at times, but no where near as often as in Dark Souls. Not locking the regions was a horrible idea.
And btw I'm on the PC version. My PS3 version had a lot of bad lag too though.
