Butthurt in the Burg

Doing a little PVP in the Burg, summoning, being invaded, pretty easy going.

When all of the sudden I summon some dude wearing my exact armor set up

So I summon him in for a fight, I wave at him and bow, only for him to return the gesture with taunts.

I wave again, but still, he points down and "Well what is it" at me.

So finally I decide to just end the pleasantries, and buff my Ricards Rapier with CMW.

The other dude is rocking both a Lightning Claymore and a Chaos Rapier, as well as the DWGR (I am too).

So we charge in and trade blows, but I quickly make short work of him, that's the end of that, I think it's over when I get a message from the guy telling me, "You're nothing without that buff"...

"Uhhhh...what?"

He then goes on to tell me that Buffs of any kind are OP, so I respond with a timely, "ORLY?"

Round 2, I ditch my Buff and my Catalyst all together in favor of the BSS +15.

And what do you know, I win again, faster than last time as a matter of fact.

He eventually messaged me that I won fair and square, but still...It's the Burg...and there's no sign that says, "No Buffs allowed" Why the hate...

Buffs are seen by some people as being noobish, which they are to an extent, but I don't think the ele flipping guy has any right to judge them based on that.

If you spend 20 levels getting something, its not nooby lol.

I never said it's unbalanced, I said it's a bit noobish, as in, easymode to kill an opponent in three-four swings of a Dex weapon.

i dont care if you buff, but don't get mad if i turtle till it runs out.

also ask your self this and be honest, do you enjoy matches that you win in 2-3 hits or do you prefer matches that go for a decent amount of time. that is why i dislike buffs for my self.

he's right.....Buffs are try-hard stuff,no matter what you say.

No matter how many times I switch playstyles, I always get hatemail for it. I started out using buffs - ditched those. I started backstabbing more often(punishing, really, not fishing) - I got hatemai for that of course, but whatever. I then started using Great Combustion and got some nasty replies even when only using it twice in one duel. I now limit myself to only GC per fight and parry a lot more but still get put down for both. I even ditched the Dwgr the first day I heard about the adjustment made to it. Heck, I don't even use katanas because they just give off a bad vibe.

I had to find out for myself but I now truly realize you can't please everybody. Some people will always complain as long as something works well.

Why would the buff user get mad?he may end up landing something on you while you're turtling,and even if he doesnt,he didnt lose anything while you were turtling...

the majority of the people that buff HATE it when people turtle their buffs which i think its rediculous since its a counter to the buff.

i turtled a DMB Large club once and got hate mail saying i was to scared to face him fair.

By all means, if you want to turtle till my buff runs out, please do, I might get a bit of chip damage and the occasional dead angle, that's fine by me.

Ricard's is a weapon that's practically made to be used with a buff, it doesn't kill in 3-4 hits, more like 6-7.

you could say the same thing about evey weapon really, rapiers are supposed to just chip at your opponent's hp till they die, swashbuckling them to death which is how it should be.

To me buffs are just something that ruins the fight. I just have to turtle the first minute (which is boring as hell) because I can't start trading with fast weapon that kills me in 3 hits.

People tend to rage message about their bane in pvp. For some it is buffs they cry about. Others it may be wotg or great combustions. Hornet ring, masks, too much fishing etc blah blah

I usually laugh off the hate mail and tell them to consider the build they are using against me. 99% of the time it is just a different form of optimized build like mine which I am glad to pvp against.

The only buff, if it can be considered one, I use is the Charcoal Resin, and frankly the only reason I do use them is because they make your weapons be set ablaze with FIRE O-O! Wonderful burning fire!

I agree with Juu. I will turtle buffs until they are gone. Some people have gotten it, and swap weapons, swap back to get rid of their buff. I'm just not a fan of dying in 3 hits.

But, Letter X, don't change you playstyle because you get hatemail. There isn't one playstyle that is universally accepted (thank god for that). Play how you want to play. Don't glitch. Play fair (in your opinion fair). Haters are going to hate. Don't give into their temper tantrums.

I normally don't worry about or even reply to hatemail. I just started getting into dueling less than two months ago, so I was still trying to learn what was "acceptable" by most people. I was just really surprised at how many things in the game people complain about. For the most part, the two main reasons I switch builds or playstyles is because I see it is too common or because it makes me feel like I have an unfair advantage. But what I'm really doing is proving to others and more importantly myself that it doesn't matter what I'm using, I'll probably win.

I like playing people buffed to the teeth with DMB/SLB. They usually come out ultra-aggressive and just start swinging making an easy first-swing parry.
