Outside the box. Empty Outside the box.

Post by Knight Alundil Tue Oct 16, 2012 7:00 am

Okay so i'm a bit of a stick in the mud when it comes to sharing tactics. Frankly, I don't like the idea of sharing my ideas when im sharing them with the people I will probably be using them against. Doesn't make sense to me.

But damn guys please can you start thinking outside the box? Of course this isn't aimed at everyone, but I see people comment about how certain spells/gear/weapons in the game are "useless". Nothing in this game is useless, trust me. I've been repeatedly surprised by under rated weapons and spells just by using them in ways that they were not intended.

    A quick example i'll give, seeing as i've already shared it elsewhere on this forum;

Poison mist is not only used to poison people. Use it as a smoke screen to shoot crossbows/spells from. White dragon breath works well and if an opponent is over confident and runs into your poison a fire tempest is always good.

You'd be really surprised the amount of different uses you can get out of one spell in this game.

    Ps. Never forget to herd.

Stuff is useful in its own way, an example is the whips they dont do much but can't be paried so they are useful for taking down pary spamers and the GSOA is seen as a secondary wepon but it is weary viable with fast roll becouse of its lengt.

^Whips rule. They are generally overlooked because they don't do a lot of damage and they can't combo. However, they can't be parried and they have AWESOME reach. I'd say at least half of my builds have offhand whips and they're actually very effective. Plus they can parry and the damage is actually pretty solid, averagine about 150-200.

I've been using the chameleon as a reversal tactic.
I use it when I am a little far from the enemy, but I make sure he can see me changing. The guy comes to me thinking that I haven't see him see me (lol) and when he aproaches me (think I gonna let him pass away from me) I attack of sudden.

It can sound stupid, but I sucessfuly used it a dozen of times this week.

Pretty much the only way I see spells like this used. I know that whenever a smokescreen spell is used they'll either come charging through it or shooting through it, so I lock off and charge in with a running attack. Turns the tables usually, though sometimes I eat 3 Avelyn bolts. Still fun.

My new build uses Scythe, PGS, fog ring, hidden weapon and chameleon in fight with 21 poise...if that's not thinking outside the box I don't know what is, haha!
I always like to challenge myself a bit because I want that feeling of accomplishment when I win and if I don't directly challenge myself with my build, I like to create interesting twist to it happy

the caestus is probebly one of the most underated weapons in the game. the fact is its very very awsome, i killed many people with it.
i also very rarely see people using a left hand weapon. i found that all of the whips, curved swords, spears and ultra great swords are very affective in the left hand, and the curved swords are exelent to punish BS fishers that come to your left shoulder.

Well, here's one. After almost a year of this, I finally got around to trying Seek Guidance. Had a coop build with 12 Faith for Heal/Force, and a spare attunement slot -- basically the only miracle left was Seek Guidance (don't have the gravelord ones). So I'm screwing around with it and lo and behold the cast looks almost exactly like TWoP except it has a bigger radius and lasts longer. You don't suppose...

Haha, sure enough, if I cast it in front of invaders they run away! It is the funniest thing ever, and has saved hosts 2 or three times particularly when facing mage builds. And it lasts longer than TWoP so it really confuses people. What I thought was the most useless spell in the game is actually awesome. DkS, you complete me.

Yeah, VoS is my favorite spell/miracle, but it requires 2 slots and pretty high Faith which is tough for my mid level chars. Plus it actually has a lot of combat uses, so people may well have seen it before. Seek Guidance? Haha, no. I may well be the only person out there crazy enough to not only slot it during coop runs but actually pause to cast it when the DW charges in, which is precisely why I'm at 100% bluff success rate so far. I've actually scared people away from not only vulnerable hosts, but groups of mobs they love to hide behind like the Anor Londo guardians.

what do you mean bluff cast? it actually puts you through the casting animation of it but doesn't do anything?
