    Hi all,

I like most, have hit a wall...I am doubting if i have picked the correct class and if i have levelled the correct talents.

Im a Bandit, use 1H axe and shield. only level, stamina, HP and strength. (Still cant wield most big weapons though..)

Came up to Blighttown after a successful run and got owned. Darksouls seemed to unleash a massive blow to my progress and momentum. I checked numerous guides and realised i should do the basin and then drakes.

Basin was OK, but the tough enemy at the bottom of the watch tower just couldnt be beaten... So i moved on to the drakes and struggled again!

Basically, i feel im too low level to fight these areas and struggle to see a wise way of leveling (bar some hardcore boring grinding).

I think my total level is mid 30's. I feel as a bandit im very slow in combat.

Recommendations, pointers or people of a similar bane, i welcome your thoughts.

    Happy hunting happy

Drakes are hard even at the end of the game. Don't fight them, haha. Instead, take the shortcut to Blighttown, which is located in the Valley of the Drakes, but you won't have to fight any of them to gain access. I use this shortcut every time I play the game and seldom do I ever explore the upper region of Blighttown.

The first time I played the game I got cursed, and stuck in Blighttown. I didn't know about the shortcut and didn't want to trek backwards, so I just made a new character. The beginning of this game (SL 1 - 40) is the hardest part of the game and the most discouraging to new players.

    Don't give up!

Having your exact stats would help.

If you leveled only HP, Endurance (Stamina) and STR, and you still have problems, then you should:
-Change to a heavier weapon: Big weapons do tremendous damage, while being slow, but being slow it's not a problem in PvE.
    -Equip better armor/upgrade your armor.
-And the most importante thing: Upgrade your weapon: In Dark Souls having good stats it's almost as important as having a good weapon, most of the times it's better to have a better weapon (upgrade it more) than 2 extra points in STR.

Most things have been covered , but as Chiz said , having your stats would help us help you more. You could be poorly equiped and not know it. I have personally found that a good high stability shield and a good GS generally get me through most things. If you want to stick with a 1 hand axe , the Battle Axe isnt bad. But to be honest its about as slow as the greatswords and with less damage. You should have the Claymore at this point , if your lucky you may even have the Black Knight Sword , which I really loved my first play through.

All that being said , Blighttown my first time through was terrible. Like Stockpile , I also didnt know about the shortcut. Hopefully you chose the master key as your gift , it will be a huge help if you have it.

What everyone else said. And remember, if you're having a real hard time co-op does exist. Good luck. happy

You could also watch a bunch of videos on YouTube. Check out Rurikhan's channel or EpicNameBro. They have lots of playthrough videos from the beginning of the game to the end and might give you a good idea on what to do next and how to do it. Plus, they are fun to watch and you learn a lot.

Yeah, I honestly don't know many people who actually fight those drakes. Unless they care about them damn D4rg0n Weappers. The only reason to hit VOTD - Red Tearstone Ring

Other than that, avoid that ****, yo.

If you use the short cut from New Londo to get to Quelaag's Domain don't expect an easy ride. True you'll miss out Blighttown but I've died almost as many times falling off that damned wheel as I have from enemy attacks. Oh and a tip. Make sure you have a few flowering moss clumps about your person if you go this way.

Really there are no easy options in Dark Souls to be honest. It's not that kind of game. Don't give up. You'll keep on dying but you keep on learning too. Remember we've all been there.
