Are Crossbows Any Good

I just tried out the heavy crossbow for the first time and it sucked. It took 5 or 4 unblocked shots to kill the soldiers underneath the dragon bridge. I can kill them in two with my unupgraded short bow.

The bolts were the 48? damgage ones
The arrows were the 45? damage ones

Just from your experience are crossbows any good at all and if they are any tips on how to use them well.

i love the avelyn crossbow which you get much later in the game, it can be extremely handy in pvp if you can spare the weight.... I have personally not found them of much use in PVE but at times use them for fun....you can get some OK damage if they are upgraded a bit and you use good bolt....
I use a +15 avelyn and dealing a quick 200+ damage to an opponent if they are not expecting you to pull out the crossbow can really throw them off....i like to keep it hidden until the end of the match, surprise for anybody wanting to pull a sneaky heal

Ya I have the avelyn on other characters. I've just never had the time to put through a trial run lol. Once I get to it on my current character I'll definitely put it through a very intensive trial.

Whether they're good or not depends on what bolts you use in combination with them as well as your tactics. And the way you upgrade, of course. I'd probably say the crossbows are much more efficient in pvp though, as they work great for surprise attacks, especially the avelyn, which i've had to face of several times. So yeah, they are good as long as you know how to use them. As for the heavy crossbow, i rarely use it, but i believe i saw a video on it with some guy using it, so it could be a good weapon later on, once it's maxed out and you have better bolts, but until then, it's not the best choice.

Why are you talking about the 2 slowest xbow's? Avelyn and the heavy xbow are way too easy to punish and to roll out, for pvp the best xbow is the light xbow dose around 200 damage shoots fast and reloads in like a sec...

Use them in your off hand and you'll love them.

They may have slower reloads, but it's not exactly hard to handle them, so that shouldn't even be a problem in the first place.

:shock: slow reload speed is 1 thing they also weigh more oh and try using one of them against a dex or a more experienced opponent and it will be just sooooo sooooo effect...

I've had no problem with it so far.

i like to use crossbows as a nice way to wittle down an enemy while they are still advancing. once they get close enough, then swap to weapon/pyro of choice.

I tend to use it more in PvE, as upgraded enough, they can deal with most lowish level enemies with one/two bolts. And that was my weapon of choice when dealing with the Hydra in Darkroot basin as I had not invested in any casting spells at the time, and my pyro was never going to reach the Hydra.

I was very late in my use of the cross bow`s in DkS.
Started using them in PvE a few months ago and find them helpful in certain situations.
Also if used right in PvP they can be very effective.

If you'd asked me that question six months ago I'd have said a resounding no, but nowadays I am a total convert, as I've come to realise that if used properly they can be one of the most deadly weapons around, and I defy anyone to say that a +15 Avelyn is not an absolute beast of a weapon.

i love the xbows(specially the heavy xbow) most of the times i have to go with the light one since its lighter. theyre so good those sneak attacks and killing blows, theyre specially good against pyro since theyre so damn fast and its so funny getting headtshots every time they attempt one of the storm pyros.

Cross bow`s have saved me getting infected a million time`s in The painted World and Blight Town.
Just having that advantage of tackling a target without having to get in close is really helpful.
Like I say in the right situation they are very effective.

Crossbows rule! They shoot the first shot a lot faster than bow so you can use the element of suprise to your advantage more effective with crossbows (keep it hidden in the off hand and whip it out and make a quick shot) but they have longer recovery so make sure to have your distance.
Crossbows don't scale either so any build with a free hand slot and weight to spare should have at least light crossbow equipped.

I also started using crossbows recently, on my midrolling greatsword Tarkus build. Current favorite is a heavy crossbow +15 and heavy bolts. It does ~250-300 dmg in PvP, and it staggers almost everybody with one shot. The reload also seems to be slightly faster than Avelyn, and you can toggle out of part of it. So basically I use my greatsword until they try to escape (which normally they can since I run more slowly), and then as soon as they turn their back I shoot them in the spine. If they're still alive after that, they're almost always staggered, and I can toggle out of the crossbow reload back to my greatsword and give them one last sendoff before they recover.

I think the sniper crossbow is a scam, because you can't snipe with it.

Also a lightning avelyn and lightning bolts are beast.

you can snipe with the sniper crossbow, it just requires patience and binoculars (pressing the fire button while in the binoculars view screen will make you fire where you were looking, no sight so you have to approximate the center of your screen)

I will definitely start investing in my xbows guys. I'll prlly use em as a one time thing in pvp, so i'll go with the avelyn cuz of the burst on my midrolling build
