    BKGS ?????? opinions

Post by tofucactaur on Sun Oct 14, 2012 8:22 am

I am trying BKGS on a new build,
    http://tinyurl.com/8s8s3dt
    I call him brutal gollum
Trying mid rolling, new weapons, i know the gear is not perhaps the very best, esp armour wise, but i like how it looks etc role playing blah blah blah
anyway, its really just a quality build, and decided on trying the BKGS after seeing rosies uppercut video and the R2 moves are sometimes more useful then I would have first assumed. Anyway, I have been using the great scythe for AGES now, but before that I was using ZWEI, so its fun playing with UGS again. Also using a shield has been fun, I almost never use one and have decided to experiment a bit, learning parries aswell so its def something different. Anyway, thought I'd see what people thought of build + am interested on peoples opinions of the BKGS in particular. Both the R2's can be really brutal

I think you've optimized this build quite well. It looks really good. Only thing I'd note is that you have 5 weight points to play around with.

I always considered the BKGS to be a Forest Ganker's weapon, seen far too many of them use it and try to impress invaders with the R2s after they died.

R2s can be brutal if they connect. If they don't then the resulting backstabs will be brutal for you. Parrying has gotten popular these days and the R2s scream to be parried. So yeah, just watch out when you come up against people gagging to rollstab you or those that like to spam parries (one of them might actually connect!).

The weapon's range will hurt you a little bit as well but you can counter that with your spear. Damage is very nice though.

As for the build, you've got 42 end there, go back down to 40. There are also better and lighter shields than the Iron Round Shield. If going for stability then consider the Tower Kite Shield, 3.0 weight and 72 stability at +15. There's Silver Knight for 76 stab at 5.0 weight or you can just go Grass Crest for the stamina regen.

Any reason for 67 poise? For the DLC, imo the three poise breakpoints would be 31 (katanas and junk), 53 (greatswords and junk) and 62 (2 hits from katanas and junk). Unless that's the look you're going for, i'd suggest you swap out your clothes for something more appropriate.

What Pendant said. I've never seen BKGS in the forest.

The BKGS can be a great weapon if you know how to handle it. It has long range and good damage, and doesn't demand too much stat investment to use either. As for the R2, if you know how and when to use it, you'll crush your enemies like they're nothing. I saw a video of someone using a build with that weapon, sure did good in pvp, so go for it.

The thing is a beast. The 2H R1 is especially brutal because of it's speed and range. Just don't spam it too predictably or you'll be parried.

haha had a killer win today landing 2 2hand R2s in a row, first one connected, uppercut and then the second landed as the opponent stood up. It was something I noticed in the video rosie posted, she pulled the same move, an R2 as someone was getting up. I wonder if it can be a chainable tactic. fairly hilarious. The weapon is def fun, apart from that, mid rolling is going ok. I am going to try DSS instead of SKS, as for comments regarding poise yeah, mostly the gear i am wearing is just for looks, I realize there is more efficient gear, I tend to play with 53 poise, but decided to tank a bit more and try to land R2's with BKGS. I upped the poise even more for a while but found no need for it. Have also been swapping the dragon slayer great bow out for avelyn, it gets used more, although i spend most time invading in the catacombs so sometimes it worth keeping the greatbow....
as for the shield, yeah, its not great, i def use it just for looks, sometimes i switch to green crest but i dont really like how it looks....hmmm does ANYBODY use the iron round shield? i also use it on another build sometimes purely for looks.... i appreciate the suggestions, tbh i think i need a shield with better stability, i am not used to using one, have been attempting setup parries but blocking for a few hits can land me in trouble quickly. another reason i have been keeping huge poise, trying to land parries, failing, trying not to get stunlocked.....

You should put the SKS in your left hand so you can poke at people who dodge your BKGS. I also mid roll at 120 with the BKGS, and having a spear in the offhand has been invaluable. Also, try a stronger shield like the Black Knight, Silvr Knight, or Balder shield.

Same as greatswords, UGS shine when 2 handed. They have higher swing speed, and the R2 you want to do. Your build is too "all around" in my opinion. You have equipment that can be easily menu swapped mid fight. I did major tweaks to the build, seeing as you're mid rolling, you need high poise, especially for spears. You can use a lightning Pike when in trouble, and the greatbow, well maybe Gough's Greatbow will be better for you (I hope this isn't a spoiler).

no spoiler its fine, iv spoiled all i can with regards to DLC. Yah the stats were not specifically built around the use of these weapons, but rather I started using them on my sort of generic quality build. Thus far i am really enjoying this build and may roll another with these weapons in mind happy I will def try a spear in the off hand, I was doing this for a while on some other builds with some good results. might try the balder shield..... cheers guys!

Great weapon, however it's a bit underrated. I don't know why, but i don't see it very often.
