You can parry anything if you get really close to your opponent even I f they're unlocked.

Managed it once, and have been working at it since, the best I can tell is that the parry window is at the start of their jump, they get into the air and suddenly staggered on the ground. Same for the Murakumo I think, but I've not been very successful on either.

As for hazards, they'll be running and their path may not match yours as you step forward to parry, so the angle will sometimes be off or they'll run right past you.

As for the general area, you'll have to run up to them before they hit R1

The parry zone is prime when you're literally up against whoever you're trying to parry.

Assuming you're trying to parry the dash attack, since scythe players have the tendency to do it A LOT, you'll want to parry when they're probably two steps away from you. To give you a better idea of the time frame, you're going to parry just before their attack animation starts. Once you get one, you'll be getting all of them. The scythe dash attack for me is one of the easiest to parry because the telegraph is so obvious that you've got plenty of time to get your sh*t together before you attempt the parry.
