    Weapon scaling

Post by robokorean on Fri Oct 12, 2012 2:39 pm

Still confused about this. I've been using the Claymore as I'm told its one of the best swords in the game for scaling, however I'm not entirely sure how scaling works exactly. Or if the Claymore is even as good as I'm told. Its +3 and seems pretty badass, but I thought that about the titanite catch pole at first as well. Can anyone please help?

The claymore is a solid weapon imo. Now scaling works like this when you view the details about a weapon you will see symbols near the bottom on the left side. By these symbols ought to be a letter (E,D,C,B,A,S) or a -.

Those letters and dash represent the scaling of a weapon. A - means that the weapon does not scale with that attribute, and then the letters represent different levels of scaling. A weapon with a C scaling by the open-palm hand means that the weapon has an average scaling with dexterity. The letters go from E being the worst and S being the best. Within these letters however are sub-levels of scaling. Imagine these as a + or - for a school grade. A "C+" is better than a "C". Atleast I think that is how it works, but anyways I hope this helps.

The Claymore has C scaling with strength, and C scaling with dexterity. Meaning, every time you level up either strength or dexterity, your weapon will become stronger. The higher the letter, the better(stronger) the scaling.

At 40 strength and 40 dexterity, the Claymore is VERY strong.

A higher letter for better scaling; "A" scaling is better than "B" scaling, etc.

Upgrading to fire, chaos, or lightning removes scaling all together, and gives you split damage, which is inferior in most cases. Also, elemental weapons are being nerfed in two weeks.

Ah I see. Thanks guys! So basically keep an eye on what attribute to upgrade with regards to what stats the weapon requires. Still torn betwen the claymore and halberd though. Both are +5 and kick ***. The halberd might not be as strong as the claymore but it has range on its side, which comes in handy I find in the Painted World. Might just scale them both up
