I used to think I was pretty good at PVP, then I took the flip-ring off... I was humbled and I haven't worn it since. That ring is the single worst thing in the game in my opinion.

I hate the DWGR almost as much as World Tendency... almost, hehe.

I would change "noobiest" for "very dependent". Its like a drug, after using once, you don't want to stop it. But some people have a strong will and can break free of this curse! big grin

I've actually started using the DWGR on my post dlc builds just so I can relish in their OP'ness for a few more weeks. It makes the game much more balanced at SL 100+ right now.

once the nerf hits let the tears begin over Wolf ring, they have already started slightly.

Wolf Ring does it's job appropriately however. Far less defense = far more damage taken.

Yeah, I'd rather throw on Havels ring and have slightly less poise with some real armor than use the Wolf with the hollow soldier, etc, and hit the breakpoint. You die pretty fast with less than 250 defense.

so use the wolf ring and good light armor with high defenses. all my SL100s have close to 300 armor i believe and none wear helms out of style choices.

Having Wolf Ring does not equal less defense, it simply means different defense. Light armor protects well against non-physical attack types for little weight, in exchange for no poise. With the nerf to GS, 40 poise is more than enough.

It is. However, those who choose Havel's over Wolf, as I do, don't have to limit themselves to light armor to fast roll. Besides, the more I PvP, the less poise I need. I'll be rolling a few builds with 0 poise, with what I expect will be no problems judging by how I've been doing with 0 poise so far. I will, however, be using the DWGR on my ninja cosplay.

300 defense is easy to achieve as long as you have a single medium armor piece and remember to keep 99 humanity on you. I've actually been trying to find the ideal shield+armor+wolf ring combo to use in the coming DLC.

So far it's a combination of Leather/black leather, Wanderers, Silver Knight, and Tattered sets, +speckled stone plate and wolf.

with 40 end and havels+fap ring you can wear full catarina armor with 55 poise and use a 5 pound weapon/ shield (i.e use the heater shield and maybe a curved sword or something...) solid defense and fast roll.... currently doing this on a new toon with the barbed straight sword (btw its rolling 2handed r1 attack is unique amongst straight swords)

    heres the build...

The Catarina set is fine physically, but it has one of the lowest lightning resistances in-game. Without 99 humanity a demon's spear would chew you apart (Then again, what doesn't get chewed apart by that evil thing).

Edit: http://tinyurl.com/9q3jyrx what I'm currently thinking for the DLC.

i've never had much issue with elemental defenses, besides with the way split damage is calculated its still good defense if not the best... oh crap i just realized that the frigging claw does more damage than the barbed sword one handed...guess i'll go farm up a balder sword then...

Pssst. Equip the Leo ring with the barbed sword. You're welcome.

then i can't fast roll and the leo works just as well if not better with the balder sword... has anyone done testing to see which attacks on the barbed sword do thrust since none of its attacks are actually stabs...

If a weapons only attack type is thrust, all attacks are thrust.
Just like how the zwei, despite having a thrusting animation, only does slash damage.

Leo Ring only does additional damage on thrust attacks that occur during a counter.

Basic AR damage does not get increased for non counter thrust attacks.

I should know, I tested it on my SKS toon the other night.
