    Vagrant encounters

Post by oregonav8r on Tue Oct 09, 2012 8:12 pm

Hey, just wondering how many of you have actually seen vagrants while playing.

Up until recently I had only heard of them and saw one video of one on youtube. That changed when I was going through my inventory one day counting weapons for Knight's Honor and realized I didn't have the Drake sword for some reason. So, I'm sitting under the bridge shooting the dragon's tail (third playthrough, just playing it safe) and I see what looks like a vagrant off in the distance.

After getting the sword I cross the bridge, and sure enough there was a vagrant near the bonfire there. I took my time to see what kind of attacks it had...the one I encountered looked like a dark sphere with some hair-like things sticking out of it, and 1 large claw like appendage...the claw attack was easily blocked but I almost died once when it shot up a barrage of stuff that homed in on me and I didn't block it all quickly enough.

Long story short, it only took like 2 hits to kill, for my efforts I got a small chunk of souls and a twin humanities. Was just curious how many of you have also seen these things, and if so what the drops were after killing them, as I've heard it varies depending on whether its a "good" or "evil" vagrant.

Vagrants are really scary creatures. They do intense damage.
    You can rapport them too.

You'll see vagrants fairly often if you do 4 Kings co-op and if you go kill the lonely darkwraith back in his corner. One spawns by Beatrice's sign. One of the tough ones. If you're like me you'll usually find that vagrant when you spin your camera around as your body is crumpling from being one-shot from behind by it.

I've actually never seen this one before, even when farming. Glad to know it can appear there so I'll be on the lookout.

Funny, I encountered my first vagrant there. It caught me off guard and almost killed me with its homing attack. Luckily I was able to destroy it quickly with Lightning Spears.

I've had two other encounters after that, one in Demon Ruins and the other one I can't remember. They always drop Twin Humanities for me.

I've played for over 100 hours and have never seen a Vagrant. I've also never got a Balder Side Sword, so maybe I'm just unlucky. >.>

Ironically I have two Balder side swords in one playthrough, both from the balder knights in the Undead Parish underneath the Channeler.

Have not encountered a vagrant though, and by the sounds of it, don't think I want to either :affraid:

I've encountered two vagrants, both on my last playthrough. One I saw out of the corner of my eye as I ran in to fight four kings. (I didn't know what it was and skipped it.) The other I don't remember but it gave me a bunch of souls and a much needed humanity, also it was cute. big grin

I've seen about 12 vagrants so far I guess.
Weird thing is that on the PC I've seen about 4, with "only" 200 hours of gametime. On my PS3 I've seen the other 8 but that is in more than 1800 hours gametime.

I only meet one and it really scared me.

Know the secret room with the gold serpent ring?Just at the safe spot to not get rolled over by a boulder,I saw an evil vagrant. I panicked, tried to analyze his attacks with my shield raised and almost got OS'd when he threw me spines or small ninja kunai and I managed to kill it before he could attack again, made me waste 3 Estuc Flasks though.

    All for 1000 souls,geez.

I've encountered two vagrants. I punched the other one to death with my bare fists and the other one killed me.

Vagrant encounters can seriously be summed up like this:
Very weak monsters that punch a serious punch.
    Easily dodgable attack

So pretty much, if they see you before you them, it can be really bad, otherwise, they are very weak and frankly not threatening.
    They disappointed me.

That vagrant that appears on the small bridge leading to the two silver knight archers is pretty scary. It one-shotted me on my first playthrough.

That's true of pretty much anything in this game though. If you see it first, it's generally not a threat.

Once you get to NG+7, you'll change your mind on that. Vagrants are the one creature i just roll my eyes at all the time. They are pitiful compared to most creatures. They have a very low agressiveness, low aggro range, low mobility, low HP, and high damage.

Something that can deal 1.3k raw damage=pitiful?

    :suspect:

I've seen only one. It was to the right when you walk downhill through the hollow bone in Ash Lake. I ran as fast as I could but it committed suicide into the lake as I was just getting in range to make a strike. I've never seen one since. I've logged between 1000-2000 hours... I said this in another thread and I'll say it again. I really want FromSoft to revamp the Vagrant system. I want them to be rare but not so rare people who've played thousands of hours still have never come across one. I really like the idea of them.

Strange, I've probably seen 2 dozen or more. Counting the 3 different spawn points in New Londo I've probably seen more than a dozen there alone. Run into 3 on the gauntlet bridge leading to the Archers of Discouragement at Anor Londo (literally run into them, since Fromsoft was so kind as to make the center of the skinny walkway a spawn point). Two at the Altar where Reah prays. Then individual ones here and there. I told the story of the vagrant I co-op'd with when I invaded Lautrec and his buddies. Vagrant took the attention of both of Lautrec's ganker buds.

The one that surprised me the most was finding on at Firelink Shrine. That one dropped a Lloyd's Talisman, I think.

You're likely on the XBox callip and they're on the Playstation.

Xbox's network works better for this game.

Yep. Now that you mention it I haven't seen one on PS3, though I don't play it too much.

I've racked up nearly 200 hours of game time in total so far (which I know is a drop in the ocean compared to a lot of players on these boards) and nope, no vagrants sighted yet. I know they're not as effective encounters as they could have been, but it would still be nice to see one at least once.

I'm sure that in another thread someone suggested that vagrants were more common since the introduction of the latest patch - anyone know if this might be true? I'm on PS3, and the patch certainly fixed the lack of resonance signs, so I guess it's possible.

I saw a vagrant yesterday, and I took a screenshot. They can't cast their homing soulmass thing when they're in water....
