    Reduces strength requirements for all weapons by 25% when equipped.

    Description: Ring of Smough, Executioner of the forsaken city of Anor Londo. Smough was infamous, and his greathammer more so: those who equip this ring will find similar weapons much easier to wield.

    How about increases strike or normal damage by 10%? Or gives str scaling a boost? I think those would be more useful options for a lot of players. Not a lot of people have issues putting 40 points into str to use a certain weapon, but a lot of people complain about scaling and damage on some weapons being crap.

    Well, some people think that there shouldnt be equipment that modifies raw melee damage since we already have the whole titanite system for us.

    10% isn't much, but it could give an edge in battle.

    Weapon does 500 base damage, now it does 550. I like the second one better, improved scaling. many weapons scaling sucks.

    I agree with the scaling issue. I mean, how the *** does smough's hammer only scale D? Its a giant freaking hammer!

    I'm not sure how scaling works but have the ring make str scaling twice as effective.

    how about it increases you str stat by 20% that way you can hold heavy weapons and do more damage, even at 99 str it would increase str to 119, but with one caveat: no back stabs. parrys are still okay though.

    What if it reduces your crit rate by 75%. This way you can still bs, but you bs for only +25% damage instead of +100% damage.

    that'd work to but it'd weaken parries which still require skill and thus shoudn't be nerfed, wait whats the percentage boost on a parry its higher than a bs.... so maybe .....

    I just don't see people with large weapons parrying.. Realistically. I mean I know they can but when you think of a STR build I think of either a large weapon and a greathsield or a 2 handed large weapon. I've never been parried by a heavy weapon user.

    true. so yeah that works then. also i'd suggest as a way to make smoughs hammer worth it to make, make its two handed block be able to block 90-100% of physical damage, its other resistances can be low.

    I've never used it so I'm not sure how that would play out.

    My theory is if you're two handing and blocking more than a hit or two you're doing it wrong.

    it just that hammer is huge so it could block the damage, it'd still have lower stability than a shield though thus you'd block one hit and smack during the opponents recoil animation.

    Make that two seperate rings, one that improves the damage reduction of great weapons and then smough's ring. I think both in one would be op.

    I agree with that as well but i'd argue that it should block damage well 2H as in the fight against him, hitting his hammer= 0 damage.

    I think it wouldn't be too bad an idea to give it high physical damage reduction.

    I think a lot of larger weapons should have had better damage reduction. I mean some of them are out classed at blocking by smaller weapons.

    I think the ring would be mostly pointless, because if you're getting your STR up to carry a large weapon, it's going to scale with STR anyway.

    I find equipment weight to be a much bigger issue with heavy weapons than the STR requirement.

    I agree with this, how the hell would a giant slab of rock like the demons machete not block out damage? or the demon's greataxe?

    I think that it would make the fact they are so slow and needed 2- handing (mostly) more balanced with an increase on Phys damage reduction so that they have blocking ability like a shield since most of them are bigger and harder than many shields anyway.

    just my opinion, but dark souls seems to favour dexterity a lot more than Strength on this game because of the perks of it.

    what if it would make the attack animations for smoughs hammer faster? or just change them to something better?

    A ring that makes Heavy Weapon Animations faster sounds disastrous to me, Lightning Zweihanders comes to mind. I am a fan however of the Increased Damage Reduction, Scaling, and Weight Burden Reduction with Weapons idea. However, the Weight Burden just seems like a lesser Havel, so I'm leaning more towards the Scaling and Increased Damage reduction ideas.

    thats why i said smoughs hammer, no other weapon would be affected

    considering the player already attacks faster than smough with his hammer I don't think that would be a good option.

    Totally different idea for Smough's ring: temporarily gain 50% of the stats of a player you just killed (i.e., similar effect to when Smough and Ornstein absorb each other's powers). I think 40 seconds would be a good duration, and the temporary vit should give you temporary HP. This would basically be an anti-ganker ring, because it would reward you in instances where you're facing multiple players.

    Thats an interesting idea, but you just know it's impossible just because FROM probably doesn't want to encourage foul play as bad as ganking to farm invaders..

    Well, let's be honest, FROM isn't going to design new rings under any circumstances. tongue Anyway, I think this would discourage farming/ganking, as it would reward the plucky invader who happens to kill one or two phantoms before nailing the host. But it's all just messin' around at this point.
