Red titanite Chunks at start of new game

So I start a new game today for the first time in a while. Not ng+ but a new toon. Never started as a thief before and I wanted the pendant and master key, so I went thief. At the start of the game, the moment I gain control, even before I loot the body to leave the cell, I get pop ups saying I received 2 red titanite chunks. Literally before I even press one button this happened.

Has this happened to anyone else? Does this always happen for thieves? I did not see it in the wiki.

Named my character Allant but I doubt that has anything to do with it.

I've done "unusual" things at character creation and ended up with this, followed by a missing knight (the one that gives estus) had to quit and reload to get hit drop to appear (not as nice as talking to him, but hey you can continue) other than that when this happens the only other thing is that the black knight outside the starting cell never spawns. Does this describe you?

I was invading with my Darkwraith, found the host afk, decided to have some mercy, quit to title, and started a new game.

My knight that gives estus was there as usual.

I had this same thing happen...but I figured it was because I had BB glitched the character.

Before you judge me, I do it to test weapon damage levels with different attack stats.

when you bottomless box glitch the char and you have returned to undead asylum the black knights are support to be there(bb glitch) but the game will not allow it so they kill them and you got the drops

That makes sense but I didn't glitch this particular toon. I've only ever done it to create a low level Sunbro that I never play. This was supposed to be my fresh start toon.

If I remember correctly this actually didn't happen to the toon I BB'd.

its a result of the blk knights in the area being "killed" when making a new game and there not supposed to be in the asylum first time around.... i think as i've gotten a bk sword in addition to the chunks on occasion and it happens more often if you bb a char and haven't bothered to kill the knights in the asylum (i make many build for cosplay, hence the bb'ing.) pretty much any new character can have this happen if you have to overwrite a file i think as even a non bb'd char had this happen but i did overwrite an old toon to make the new one.

you might have accidentally bb'd by having full slots and deleting one to automatically make a new one by pressing new game

Yeah, you're right. I just bought the box to check and there sat all my crap. Oh well. Here I thought I found a secret.
