Hello Again Forumers!! Grae here with my topic of the day. So today, lets talk about what armor we use for pvp, the style factor and poise points you  deem most important. also, does Defense for phys, mag, light, and fire play any part in your choices. I know I enjoy my Crystal Helm, Dingy Robe, Wanderer Gloves, and Knight Leggings. gives 58 poise with wolf ring, does not weigh to much, and over 300 phys def and close to 300 for all magical ones, so for me, it seems to be all around a good set for everyday use. What does everyone else use? Also, 58 poise is overshooting it for me, but I lilke the armor set-up.

Hollow soldier waistcloth FTW, single best piece of amour in the game, it's the fap of armours. I've been using so long I actually like the look of it now big grin

As for breakpoints 31 or 61 for me.

    Looking good>Function.

But, there is a lot of armor that does both. Here is a good armor setup i like to use. There are better setups for this build but i like the looks of it. If i recall correctly it gives me 61+ poise. Which i usually go with.

the best defence to aim for is 330 phyiscal defence and yes looks poise and defence all matter.

The problem with high physical defense is most of the time you're gonna have low magic defenses. I tend to aim for high physical defense anyway, but when i run into mages i get dusted. This is why i've since started wearing maiden and dingy robe to at least offer me some decent magic defense. Plus they're both light and give pretty good physical defenses too.

Do what I do, put high magic defense gear right under your physical defense gear, and if you're invading try to be cautious and see what they are using before you start fighting them. Lots of times I'm able to see them during that summoning sequence, (the invincible one) and I can swap right then.

For anyone that has seen my builds, they know I am great at combining functionality and aesthetics. Some things that I have learned about making builds, or things that I just really emphasis in my build making process.

Catarina leggings are mostly cloth with armored boots, and have exactly 13 poise to make 53 with wolf ring. Gloves are big, but still able to be used.
Knight of Thorns helm and Iron Bracelets. One of the best armor set ups for thorn armor.
Giant leggings are the same as Catarina leggings, except with 61 poise.
Witch hat swag. Thief mask swag. Pharis hat swag. All very light weight helmets, with the Witch Hat weighing a surprisingly low 1.1.
Most "tryhard" armor set up? Mom Mask, Havel gloves, Iron Leggings. 77 poise with massive health.
    Waistcloths are for nubs.
    Coats are for pros.
Do you have a lot of extra weight? Chester coat. Not enough? Witch coat. Not enough? Wanderer coat. Not enough? Hollow thief armor. Not enough? Painting guardian robe.
Prioritize aesthetics first, then poise, and then maybe defense.
Almost always have as much poise as you can dish out. Exceptions when people with to fast roll with things like the Zwei or Great Club.
Lord Blade Waistcloth and Lord Blade Chestpiece give 54 poise with wolf ring.
Gough Leggings are made of almost no armor but give 13 poise. Use them for funny builds.
The sack is surprisingly a good helm for lightweight builds that don't have much weight left.
    Knight gloves are amazing.
Never go under 31 poise unless you have a plan against it, or absolutely can't get to the weight requirement.
91 poise is the highest you should go.
    Wolf Ring > Havel Ring

Those are some of the things concerning armor in my build making process. Can say that Giant and Catarina leggings are my two favorite armor pieces, as well.

Always style above everything. Then poise. I never even look at my defense. I pretty much always get at least 56 poise. For me, perfection is 36 poise with an open ring slot.

    My favorites:

    Elite/Naked/Havel/Wanderer (36 + optional wolf)
    Thief/Dark/Favor/Knight (36 + optional wolf)

    Thief/Naked/Giant/Wanderer (61 with wolf)

    Thief/Dark/Havel/Elite Knight (56)

    Thief/Naked/Vanquisher/Knight (56 with wolf)

I try to at least have the poise to tank a kat. Often that means just using a Wolf's Ring. But, I go here: http://www.raymondhill.net/darksouls/darksouls-armor-calc.php I select a balance between poise and physical defense.

I'm a sucker for aesthetics... I don't care too much for defense.

Channeler waistcloth and gauntlets, Paladin armor, and Dusk crown (most of my builds are casters) And wolf ring. Gets me up to 70 poise.

As seen on my "Uberkill" build.

Full elite knight set all day erreyday. High defense, *****' style, and decent poise at 46. Enough to take two 1h katana hits which is plenty for me. Although if I feel the need ill throw on a Wolf ring for 86 total poise.

I personally go with Giant Helm, arms and leggings all +5 with the Wanderer's Coat +10. Need RoFP and Havels for the fast run but you get 61 poise. Excellent defense and the fast roll. Grass and buff and you can tank 2 hits from the great swords and stunlock the heavy weapon spammer to death. twisted

I like making it to 76 poise and midrolling. In that context, I'm flexible, but physical defense is important after that in PvP.

Sadly many good pieces of equipment in this game take pointlessly excessive farming to attain rather than risk or difficult maneuvers, and so I often wind up with the now-hated GIANTS, GIANTS, GIANTS. Do I do it to be funny? To troll? To be a tryhard?

Nope. I do it because I'm lazy, and you can BUY giants and then BUY twinkling titanite and suddenly you have the highest physical defense armor set, 77 poise with choice of hat or mask (mother being the best in function, and again attractive since it starts maxed when you get it).

At least I don't usually look like a pure giantmom with a zwei, because zwei is standard upgrade path big grin. Screw farming chunks, let's buy a giant halberd and upgrade that too! For dex things like tracers and silver knight spear work. Not much good no-effort pickups for str though unless you want to wait for black knight gear to be guaranteed in kiln.

I use havel's a lot for this reason too. Excellent poise, respectable defense, no upgrade effort at all. Smough's works for this purpose as well.

I feel like if you've beaten the game you should be able to buy any desired upgrade material for souls. Why did they only give us twinkling titanite, but not chunks? Farming gets tiresome, and now people hack/mule and call it fair when to compete with that one must also at least mule.

No offence, but I don't know how people can wear 4 completely different items together and think it looks good. The best looking loadouts are ones with a full set of armour. I've never liked mixed armour setups, they just look... wrong somehow. Especially when the armours are completely different colours. My ideal build would be something like this (you'll notice that i'm using the full set of giants, including the helm). Strangely I can tolerate the pinwheel masks, though its probably just because i've gotten used to them (which is kinda disturbing when you think about it), and the crown of dusk (but only on female characters).

EDIT: Actually, there is one full set I can't tolerate. I will NEVER EVER EVER wear smough's armour... don't even get me started on that abomination (luckily giant's is superior in pretty much every way).

All of my builds use lightweight armour, usually I try to aim for 13-15 poise so I can slap a Wolf Ring on to tank most hits if I feel I need to.

Sadly my new SL125 build, which probably has my favourite weapon set up of all time, cannot go to 13 poise without Hollow Soldier Waist Cloth.
    I chose 0 poise.
**** those leggings. I have a kilt in real life, so I don't mind that idea, but it looks so stupid with most other armour pieces.

I always do combos that look good and offer a decent amount of defense for a fast roll.
the best I came up with so far is for a female
    thief mask
    Chester coat
    stone guardian leggings
    panting guardian hands

with my claymore, the dark hand and the short bow+ pyro glove, wearing the ring of favor and protection, it gives 23 points of poise. this is enough to play properly to avoid being staggered by the dagger or arrows
and if you want to play sloppy and raise your poise to tank any hit you can with wolf ring
