Lautrec's Fall Control

This is a question that has been bugging me. Why does Lautrec and his ganker squad have fall control activated? It's useless and unessesary. Why did the developoers take the time to put it on them? Is there something I'm missing? Is the fall control actually something else?

Edit. Finaly confirmed it is fall control by making Lautrec fall off the stairs.

No, it's fall control, or something that looks like it. Slumbering Dragoncrest looks like balls on your feet. This looks more like a blue flame, which is what fall control looks like.

I think it's because you take a chunk of fall damage off the back of the stairs leading up.. sooooo you could cheese they're dumbasses easily doing if you wanted.. but with fall control you cannot. Btw, Lautrec does have the Slumber Dragon Crest on.. thus why you can't hear clanking armor when he moves and thus the circles around his feet.. but he ALSO has fall control active..

If you run around the environment enough (Up the stairs where the silver knight archer is, round the top past the broken window and back down the other stairs) Lautrec and his buddies will fall off the stairs and do considerable damage to themselves. Seeing as they're NPCs they would just follow you round again and again until they die and I assume the developers thought this was stupid since a person would only make that mistake once, if at all.
