What's a good heavy weapon for the unexperienced?

Somewhat PvE though mainly PvP focused question here, what are some good heavier weapons for those that aren't good at using them?

I've always liked using heavy weapons in various games but am afraid to do so in Dark Souls as punishment can be severe fairly quickly. I want to try and abstain from using fast weapons though as I believe they don't help me improve at all.

Quick edit example: I was thinking of using the Stone Greataxe when the DLC hits consoles.

I'm personally fond of the black knight weapons. They're fast despise their weight, and scale rather decently. If you want to go super OP though, Demon Great Machete/Axe+15 with a buff of your choice. you'll destroy worlds.

Is the Zweihander at 10 weight units heavy or is the Dragon Tooth at 18 heavy?

I guess any weapon that has the prefix "Great" or could qualify as such. Something where I would have to think more about when to attack rather than being able to just swing wildly, like with a katana or something.

Think he's talking bout the big ole beastly str UG stuff. Look into the Ultra greatswords, they're learning curve isn't the steepest, nor are they wimpy in the damage output. If not those, then try out the various axes.

Well, at least I am quite fond of the Large Club, though I think I'm basically the only one.

My advice - level your Strength to a point where you can test out a bunch of different weapons and decide for yourself.

On a related note, a few days back I fought a guy using the Dragon Greatsword and he was simply devastating. Just a little FYI.

the easiest and one of the best is the msgs, that thing is awesome and hits really hard. i would say DGM, that thing is awesome or any ugs since theyre really good to counter bs because of the wide arc attack of the r1, just unlock and theyre gonna have a hard time trying to bs you. the greataxe is another good one for anti bsing, specially strafe bs since you can just unlock and aim towards the direction theyre trying to bs you and theyll end up getting stunlocked to death, its just *** strong as the DGA but A LOT lighter which goves you more room for better armor.
