Fire Emblem: Prepare to Die Edition

Post by IceIfrit666 on Tue Oct 02, 2012 10:51 pm

Well I've been learning how to hack the game Fire Emblem 7 and the first goal is making Artorias a character for you guys. Mainly because you guys are like a second family and I haven't given anything back to you at all.

I'll update this topic whenever I make some progress with it. Praise the Sun
    ----------------------------------------
EDIT 2: I decided to make this a full hack called "Fire Emblem: Prepare to Die Edition" The game will be harder than FE7 and will feature Oscar, Solaire, Chosen Undead, and Tarkus as playable characters among others.
    ----------------------------------------
    Started out with this:
I have to simplify it down to 15 colors, I also removed the sword as it would look odd in a portrait.
Currently at this (not done simplifying):

EDIT: The picture was supposed to have head and shoulders only.
Zoomed (Oh dear god how is this savable?):
Newest (and pretty far into shading):
Considering the zoomed picture, I'm doing fairly well! Joy

    EDIT 2: I haven't updated in a while but here's the newest.
I added the talking and blinking frames (none because he doesn't blink and he doesn't have a mouth), lightened his colors, and changed the ponytail to one that a character already had. I probably need to add some more shading again.
Also I was testing it to see if it works and found this to be fairly amusing.

I think it would be interesting, but I'm not really interested in hacking. Overall you are doing a good job, but what model would this skin replace? I'm not up to date in which one is Fire Emblem 7 so I was just curious.

It's not going to replace any character or use any of the existing classes.
He'll have his own separate character and class.
It's going to be a challenge but it'll be worth it.

Never played Fire Emblem 7, haven't played any of them to be honest, but even then, it's cool, so good job.

Thanks for the compliments, I've been working hard on this for a few days.

    (INCOMING WALL OF TEXT)

    Alrighty then!

Fire Emblem is a strategy game, the map is layed out in tiles, some of which give defense, avoid, or can hinder your movement. There is the "lord" of the group which must stay alive or it's game over. Most of the lords are weak but a few of them can take out entire maps*cough*Ike*cough*. Then you have other units, they are all separate characters, if they die you cannot use them for the rest of the game but you do not get a game over. All lords have their own unique classes that are based off of existing ones, normal characters have "standard" classes but can sometimes have a special one such as a dragon. You can get new characters from certain villages, starting a chapter with them, or even convincing an enemy to join by talking to him with a certain character. There are a limited number of tiles that you can attack away from. Melee weapons have a 1 range. Bows have a 2 range. Magic, magic weapons, and throwing weapons have 1 and 2 range. Magic also has tomes that can hit 3-10 tiles away but those have low hit rate. When weapons are effective against another, the unit gains hit and avoid while the enemy loses it. There are 4 weapon types, axe, sword, lance, and bow. Sword beats axe, axe beats lance, and lance beats sword. Bows however are effective against flying enemies like the Falco Knights and Wyvern Riders and are not weak to anything because of not being able to attack at 1 tile. There are also 4 magic types(in FE7 at least), light, dark, anima(nature), and staffs. Light beats dark, dark beats anima, anima beats light. And staffs usually heal but can repair weapons, get rid of poison, teleport allies, ect. There are also weapons that reverse the effectiveness of weapons. The axe known as a swordslayer will be effective against swords but will now be weak against lances. Axes, lances, and swords have these reverse weapons but bows and magic do not have them. There are also weapons that give critical chance, crits do 3 times the damage of a normal attack. Now onto level ups. There are a few stats, strength/magic, speed, defense, resistance(magic defense), skill(higher chance for crits), and a few more. Each character has growths(the chance to get a point up in a stat). The character's growths are usually affected by their class. Generals have high defense, attack and health, but low speed. Swordmasters have high speed, skill, and decent strength and health.
The levels go from 1-20 but some characters don't start at level 1. Once you reach level 10 you can use an item to promote that character from a first tier to a second tier. You will gain stat bonuses and your level will be reset to one. Second tiers cannot promote. It's better to reach level 20 to gain stats, promote, and then reach level 20 again to have the best stats possible.

    Here's a let's play: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL44495B0A08038F48
And if you want to play it, you can message me about getting it.

Unless you just want to replace the Characters with those from the Souls Games it would be rather easy .

But if you want to make custom Events and Battle Sprites...hoo boy .
Where do you want to take this Project ?

I want it to be a full hack, events, animations, ect, but I may base some sprites off of others (example, changing the assassin for Lautrec). I have a lot of ideas and I'm already learning how to do this, my time is limited so it may take awhile though. It won't be spot on, areas *cough*Lost Izalith*cough* and the story will change a bit but will generally be the same.
