    2,000+ Hours, Finally Invaded Someone

Post by callipygias on Mon Oct 01, 2012 2:01 pm

Xbox is my home, it's PvE and co-op based. What little I play on PS3 is all co-op, so I decided to make my play on PC covenant-based.

My main guy, sl 200, has 50 Faith and the DM Talisman, so he'll be my Darkmoon. Last night I did something I said I'd never do: I invaded another player. I'm sticking to the forest so I don't mess with questers (and no, being ganked doesn't bother me in the slightest, in fact I enjoy the different feel of it, and it reminds me of Lautrec and his boys). I had a great time, but one big question is WHAT IS THE PARRY TIMING ON THE WASHING POLE? Faced a few and couldn't get a parry on it.

I started with the FaP and Leo Ring (no poise... or, like 7, I think, ha), but since almost every weapon I faced did bleed I switched to FaP/Bloodbite. I'd switch Bloodbite for Leo or Wolf if they didn't have a bleed weapon but they pretty much all did.

My next character will be my first ever Gravelord. Can't wait.

Heh, I was similar, I stuck to forest hunting for my invasioning, because whenever I tried free range invasions even as a DMB I would always draw these non-PvPers who would hide in a corner behind their shield, or just run around in a blind panic. I still don't understand why folks enjoy killing those people.

Take a hit parry. Watch jblackmel's vid on parrying and practice based off the help Martyrs vids give. It's not hard to learn.

Because it's always fun to ruin the time of somebody who has no idea what they're doing .

    Also, what Ichigo dude said.

For katanas like the Washing pole you need to parry before their attack animation starts. I'm not sure how lag is on the PC, there might actually be less, but on the PS3 the general rule for katanas is to parry before they attack. Or you can block the first hit and parry as soon as they hit your shield, you should be able to parry the second hit.

Probably just having to do with lag. Odd, but thats just what i'ev heard from people. Personally, i'd say lure them into a running attack, thats the easiest to parry of any katana attack. I can't say much other than what I hear on setups, I only can do them on BKGA XD I predict parry only.

For me the timing has been identical on pc so far.

For now I'm only parrying the repeat attacks of spammers, as missing pre-parries is embarrassingly goofy looking.

Okay, so it's as soon as it hits your shield? I was waiting till just after it hit my shield. Strange that the 'normal' parry timing applied to that EXTREMELY quick gold weapon I mentioned, but katanas are different. Thanks for the tip.

If you invaded as a darkmoon this means that person had to have sinned. This means they totally knew what they were doing in pvp so don't feel bad bro ^_^

Since I'm doing all the covenants I gues I'm gonna have to invade questers when I finally make my Darkwraith, But I'm going to do it with my sl 7 Burg co-op guy I made, and I'll only do it in the Lord Soul areas. Even then I won't try to kill anyone who doesn't appear to want to fight. I'll lose most of the time anyway, I assume, as my vit and end will be base, but that's fine with me. I know that when you're questing you always get a warm fuzzy from killing a dw.

You cannot setup parry dex weapons with the exception of the Mura and Flamberg. So ignore the "block the first hit then parry" method. It doesn't work. If you're not good with blind parries, you can tank parry. Eat the first hit, and parry right after it connects. I've seen some vids that demonstrate the Washing Pole swing speed being slightly slower than the other kats. Reg kats you'll parry as the hit connects, so allow a little extra time for he WP.

Yeah, I understood the whole sin thing, that's why I went DMB in the first place after a few exploratory DW invasions. I was hoping to get bb glitchers importing past sin, professional DWs, etc. Instead I seemed to get people who had a few points of sin from attacking an NPC or something, they were mostly helpless in PvP (and I'm hardly pro) and weren't exactly the denizens of pure evil I was hoping to smite with the gleaming dark moon blade of justice. It was like the game was telling me invasions weren't for me, and I listened. big grin

Well, it also works for at least one of the new dex weapons.

Can someone else confirm that you canNOT block the 1st hit and parry the 2nd when it comes katanas and other dex weapons, please? This would certainly explain my situation yesterday.

I've setup parried a katana before, Damage, but it was on the third hit if that makes a difference. I'm pretty sure it wasn't a stroke of luck either.

I've personally tested it, and Martyr's tested it in his parry instruction vid, and neither of us could make it happen.

Did you try to parry the third hit? Maybe I just had a fantastic connection or something that day, or maybe it was just a stroke of brilliant luck, or perhaps I'm just not remembering it correctly and my shield was down when I took the second hit and parried.

Lag is always going to be a factor here. But, I wonder if the third R1 is slightly slower. I know it is for the 2H Clay. It is easier to block the first 2 and parry the third R1.

Also, press forward at the same time as you parry. It helps slightly.

With a straight sword, I can do around 8 consecutive 1h attacks in a row, and they definitely slow down a bit near the end if you combo them, so it might be the same effect.

Callipygias, I will do parry practice with you on ps3 if you want. My psn is Lordgodofhell, I used to have the practice sessions all the time. I don't as much now as I have become comfortable with parries and so have my partners.

The Washing Pole is slightly slower than the Iato,Uchi, and C Blade as it should be since it is longer and heavier. You CAN parry it by blocking the first hit but I would recommend using a fast parry shield as opposed to a normal speed parry one. This is ONLY concerning the washing pole.

For all other kats you will either need to take a hit (risky) and pray they swing again as you parry nano seconds after the first hit depending on your parry speed.

What I usually do for kat users is go defensive at the start until I get their pattern down. Than instead of a "blind" parry I go for a predicted parry. The difference being I expect it to connect and am not just blindly spamming the parry button.
