Old tactics i got back in touch with.

Post by Rynn on Sat Sep 29, 2012 10:42 am

It has been ages... AGES... since i swung at my opponent with every intention of them blocking my blow. With the full intention of swinging a second time right after that, and then possibly even a third. If you lock off and turn a bit with each attack, you could dead angle, or if you falter/stumble inbetween hits, you can avoid being parried, but this is an old tactic i stopped using a while ago.

Tonight, i don't know why, but i started doing it again, and it's won me many matches, due to my opponent running out of stamina from my assault, the chip damage each swing creates, and the pure havok it does on the HP when they fail to block. While my success is in part due to being a strength weapon, and so very powerful on a per hit basis, it just astounds me that such a move became so alien to me, while still being so vastly useful.

I would be scared to try.

    One word: parries :pale:

Do not let fear control your battles. After 1 or two rolling attacks, it tended to surprise my opponent to suddenly switch to the hyper agressive nublet strategy, and then i'd stop using it before they had a chance to react. I chipped away about 400 HP on one opponent before the adapted.

Yeah? Sometimes when I parry a dead-angler the game sometimes turns him around to me into riposte position.

i just remember when i attempted the parry he turned side ways as he swung last second, and after the parry he turned fully away from with back to me.

it was the only time i ever saw something like that.

i sent him a message asking what he saw on his screen during the parry but he never responded back

This is another reason I love the BSS. You can often land 2-3 R1 hits before it even occurs to them to try to parry, particularly mid-late fight after they think you're living off the R2. My favorite win against a katana user (which the BSS excels at in general) was pinging away at him with the R2, and then suddenly unlocking and feeding him R1 spam just as he tried to start slashing 2 handed. It was hilarious and over very quickly.

Does the kick > slash work with the BSS like it does with a katana?

i have had people flip away after i kicked them before my katana slash landed a hit.

be careful spamming that R2.. i just recently learned that the parry window on that is when you initially wind back, so to parry that it doesn't have to be predicted. (though you need to be close range and you probably won't use the R2 if we are close.)

Sometimes the simplest tactics are the best when everyone has had the chance to over-complicate things.

this this this this. I don't start the battle with an R1 spam, but after thirty or so seconds, doing one seems to disorient my opponent.
