Today i learned i disgust the admin.
i have a pretty open mind when gaming. i've partaken in every aspect of darksouls, from griefing, ganking, glitching, to dueling, challenge run-ing, and co-oping... bar for hacking, i've experienced pretty much everything with this game... and i can say other players do it because it's fun. Nearly nothing i've done hasn't been fun, i just stop because it's not my style, or it gets bored, or it's "lame" (ganking is boring and lame, but fun.) Griefers Grief cause Griefing is fun. i can't blame them for what i've experienced that, despite not being my style, kind of -is- fun.

Keep an open mind to all walks of life.

This is a true Dark Souls player, only someone who has been to the dark corners and admits they did should be able to voice their opinions about matters of dishonor or dirty playing. this dude played dirty decided it wasnt his style and left but he did it and admitted to how fun it is. I would thumbs up you if I could but I can only hope others will in my stead.

PS that last bit about an open mind are words to live by

I've met many, many griefers during my hundreds of hours of Burg co-op, and a few of them have seemed to be pretty good. One of them has killed me as many times as I've killed him. I wondered why someone apparently capable of holding his own would be a long term Burg Griefer. I got to talking to him, and like EVERY griefer he claims to be on NG+. He is sl 4, my guy is sl 6. I asked if he wanted a challenge and he said he did, so I invited him to my world (NG+7) to see if he could get to the Bell Gargoyles. Really I just wanted to support my theory that he's bad at the game and that's why he does what he does.

He died 3 or 4 times before making it to the fog door, but that's very good considering the learning curve after being thrown into NG+7 at SL 4. Once he made it to the fog door he never died again getting back to it.

Then the gargoyles. He died to the first gargoyle a few times, but on his last attempt he did really well. In fact he got him down far enough to actually get the 2nd gargoyle to come out. I knew that he wouldn't last a second against them both so I kept the 2nd gargoyle's attention away from him, but it didn't matter as the first one soon got him anyway. Even so, I was very surprised at how well he'd done.

I always assumed that the reason Griefers grief is because they're really bad at the game, be it PvE or PvP, but this guy shot that theory down. He was clearly capable of rolling through NG+ (at least) at sl 4. So why does he spend his time with his maxed out armor and Chaos Club one-shotting noobs in the Undead Burg? I tried to get him to tell me why he did it without sounding accusatory or judgemental, but all I could get out of him was that he didn't feel he was doing anything wrong, and that he played fair or something. And believe it or not he came across as a reasonable guy.

It was half an evening of Dark Souls spent with the intention of solidifying my opinion of Burg Griefers, but it had the opposite effect. Now I really don't understand them. He was unrealistically confident (see: arrogant), that much I know. After he'd said, "Thanks for the challenge," I replied, "You should see the Kings," to which he said he owns the 4 Kings and would roll right through them. I laughed and said it's an open invitation if he wants to prove that. Told him he'd get a prize if he could kill a single one of my Kings on his own. Haven't heard from him though.

Personally, I think some of the people just really need to get a thicker skin and understand that people won't like others always for their actions. The fact that people claim it is not right to call others griefers for their disregard for others, is quite laughable. The sensitivity of those who wish to harm others is quite amusing, and brings to mind the idea that if you throw a punch, you should be able to take a punch.

I think Tolvo's speaking with regards to some griefer's desires to rationalize their actions.

    I agree Alundil.

I'm just saying I don't understand why people like to talk about how the opinions of others don't effect them, when obviously it does.

Griefer-"Hey I don't care if people dislike me for being mean to them."

    Player-"Okay, you're a jerk."

Griefer-"Woah hey, that's offensive. Just because I'm mean doesn't mean I don't have rights, what the hell how could you be so close minded?"

    Player-"...."

Then oh well for them. Why should they care if they say they do it for their enjoyment and don't care about the enjoyment of others?

    It just seems very immature.

I agree with this. If someone wants to use advanced gear in the Burg to attack new players or new, honestly-constructed characters, then none of us can stop them. But to then turn around and act hurt when others have a problem with it is silly. If you're going to be nasty, people will treat you as though you're being nasty.

    Forum Guidelines

    1. No flaming. Debates and disagreements are fine and even encouraged,
but incendiary comments and insulting posts are not. This also extends
to abusive and offensive language, and circumventing the language
    filter.

Pardon? I don't think my post was a breach of the rules, and I certainly didn't target anyone in particular. All I'm saying is that Burg behaviour is exceedingly unkind and that it's not at all unwarranted for people to lose patience with the state of online play there.

Oh no I wasn't implying that your post was. Just the nature of this thread. Thats the rules of this forum and alot of people seem to have disregarded that rule throughout this conversation.

It seems to me that this thread has proved something:

Breaking the rules of this forum is fine as long as you feel strongly about it. But doing something in dark souls thats legit is wrong because alot of people feel strongly about it.

Depends on your definition of "legit". Using the bottomless box glitch is certainly outside the boundaries of what the developers intended, the glitch itself being a technical mistake in the game. Doing a low soul level run to get good elemental gear for use in the Burg is no less nasty in my opinion, although undeniably a more legitimate way to go about it.

I can see you didn't notice the warnings of the moderators, or the fact that people typically were very level headed while talking. Up until some of the slandering pictures came in.

If you wish to discuss how people react to things they consider negative, but the answer will never be positive at large. While we may try to turn the cheek it's hard to do with those who would get offended if we didn't.
