In case you haven't realized, but every phantom emits a throbbing noise, you just have to listen carefully. This has been somewhat helpful to me when I'm invaded, I'll know when to use caution when I hear the noise.

This also applies to friendly phantoms as well, you will hear the noise about 2 seconds before the phantom has spawned, so you will know that your summon was successful before he/she actually appears in your world.

I actually love the audio in this game. There are a lot of subtle things I don't think most people notice because of... well how subtle they are.

The voice acting and the ambient environment sounds are amazing. I love the difference in the sound your footsteps make depending on your equip burden. Pretty much everything.

I always found Reah and Solaires voices to be rather soothing. I'd totally listen to an audio book with Solaires reading. Lol

When I do some of my ambush based invasions I use a pair of hd80 headphones and i crank the volume up all the way. You can actually hear your opponents walking in most cases.

Some other things people don't notice about the audio in this game.

Reverberation is fluid. If you notice it will change along with your position in a room or between two zones. So if you walk between a chamber and an open hall it doesn't go from one to the other it flows.

Bonfires create a ominous bass tone under the soundtrack. The higher they are kindled the louder it is, but its barely audible. The sound is only heard in area's that are lit. At least from my experience.

Rings and spells that create auras add subtle noises and tones.

Its insane. Also I don't know how many people have headphones or speaker systems capable but the audio in the game is 3 dimensional.

Faster method is to have the White Soapstone equipped. When being invaded, it fades out, unable to be used, prompting you to a multiplayer event.

Same effect of other items: Red Eye Stone, Blue Eye Stone, Homeward Bone, etc.

EDIT: Realized you were talking about finding phantoms after they invaded, my mistake.

I have some Turtle Beaches and I hooked 'em up one time while PvPing. It was AWESOME.

Never used turtle beaches hahhaha. I've heard they're nice though. I prefer playing this game (no other game really) through mixing headphones because it pulls everything out. Other games using them just lets you hear every audio mistake made in the game.

Well they're surround sound headsets, and you can distinctly pick out the direction of a sound's origin, although I can't think of many practical applications in PvP. It's still pretty cool though.

If you're trying to avoid your opponent and set up an ambush its great. But if you are into dueling or just taking them head on its not as practical haha.

Yeah, something tells me soundwhoring in CoD doesn't translate in DkS. "Hush" would be the Dead Silence/Ninja perk though. Throwing off my soundwhoring abilities.

Hush does throw me off haha. But i've seen it cast in pvp like twice. And the feet will give your position away if you're within eyeshot.
