    Block bug?

    Hey everyone

    I have been asked a couple of times regarding a bug where you are holding block, then execute an attack or take a flask and the input never happens until you let go of block.

    I have never had this happen to me, even though I suffered the 1 second attack delay that was fixed back in 1.04.

    Has anyone else experienced this? If so on what version of the game? (NA-EU-JP, Xbox or PS3) DId it start recently or on any of the patches?

    I'm a bit mystified as to how I managed to play so much and never encounter this, wondering if there's a way to narrow down the circumstances.

    It only happens when you are locked on to an enemy. I tested this and results proved conclusive.

    It's happened to me too on several occasions. If I remember correctly..I think it started a few days to a week after I first got the game. I don't know why it happens but I'll be damned if the timing for it is self aware..

    It usually happens right when I need to dodge, heal, ect. and it usually causes me to die lol. It's so infuriating.

    I'm on the NA version, Ps3.

    I'm still very surprised this never happened to me if it is common. Any other parameters besides being locked on?

    Any time I was locked off it wouldn't work. Although I did notice it's more likely to happen when you lightly tap the button rather then mash it. Of course that could be a coincidence. I didn't get very in depth with it. Just enough to know you have to be locked on.

    it never happens while i'm PvPing, it's always been a PvE problem for me.

    I've seen this happen a lot, and done a bit of testing but I can't entirely remember what I found. I know that if it happens, it was the players fault. So it's a bug that punishes you for pressing the wrong buttons while blocking, typically. I have the US copy, and it has happened to me since I first played.

    I have had this happen to me before, it has gotten me killed when trying to back off and grass haha.

    You do not need lockon for this. I often horse around with my moves while waiting to be summoned in Anor Londo (i.e., not fighting anything locked on) and delayed rolls are very common particularly if you are blocking. For example, I was playing around with blocking and then backstepping/fastrolling, and very often then next time I tried to move I would instead do an unsolicited roll in that direction. I have also experienced this since I started playing so it is not recent. I still don't know if it is a repeatable bug, or just some sort of problem with too many command inputs.

    Used to happen to me every now and then (Xbox), but it seems to have stopped. More than likely it's just from the adjustment I've made in the way I guard because of this issue.

    I've never had it happen to me while horsing around. I was trying it some more last night and still the same. Never happened for lock-off and during pvp matches. Only pve.

    Idk, this bug sounds random.

    I had this happen once in firelink shrine (On the latest patch, EU, PS3).
    I used a halberd and a grass crest shield at the time, and the bug was present with and without lock-on. After pressing R1 I could hold the shield up for as long as I wanted, and the attack would still stay latched until I lowered the shield. It was one of the first times I used the halberd so I initially thought it was a feature of the weapon, but it stopped after I rested at the fire or warped (don't remember).

    I have had the other input delay bugs intermittently more or less since launch, but this was the first time it repeated the bug every time I tried to attack with shield up. I suspect it might be a weapon bug related to spears and rapiers, since you can use those without lowering the shield.

    This bug happens to me, anywhere and anytime, pve,pvp it even got me killed a few times. Im not sure how to actually activate it, but i do know when i did. (hitting r1 and then raising shield and i dont attack) Then i know that as soon as i let my shield down ill automatically attack. Happens a few times a week for sure. But not enough to complain about.

    Interesting replies. Nothing seems consistent! I still haven't managed to make this happen on my game... I wonder if it is that the way we press the buttons are different so some people will get it consistently whilst others won't ... one thing I can say Ublug is that it's not a piercing bug, since I found out about this from someone using the Washing Pole, who gets the same issue with a Claymore and a Zwei.

    Sorry if it's already been covered but here it is:

    In Dark souls actions stack, so certain actions get given priority over each other. So for example blocking goes in front of healing so when you're blocking your little block stack is there, then behind it waiting to happen is the estus stack but it cant activate until the block stack is finished.
    This doesn't happen 100% of the time but this is basically explaining the bug.

    In DeS actions phase. This means that the actions all overlap and happen instantaneously regardless of what other actions you happen to be doing at the time.


    I'm fairly positive From did this on purpose as I can see how it would make it more realistic. If you're holding up a 10 pound steel shield in one hand and an 8 pound sword in the other you shouldnt be able to whip out a bottle of fanta instantly.


    Edit: Also, using the "stack" glitch is a very effective way of timing your parrys better.
