    Strength builds

Post by Kiva the wanderer on Sun Sep 23, 2012 7:47 pm

So I've been using a strength build in pvp and so far I'm really looooving the mace, large club and golem axe, I'm using a mid roll but that to me is an incentive to hit 53 poise so I'm using a mid roll with wanderors coat, elite knight helm, havels gauntlets and giants leggings/black iron leggings/ whatever gives me at least 53 poise.

if youre going med you reealluy should go for 77 or more poise, mid rol with 53 seems like so little poise, the whole trade off of going mid or fat roll is that you can stack tons of poise, i have a sl 99 that uses the DGM and has 56 with fast roll.

^That. Med rolls are the new tanks of DkS thanks to the DWGR nerf. I have 3 builds that do med roll and have 106 poise.

For a good fast roll, try Thief's hood and chest, Wanderer legs, and Catarina arms w/ wolf ring. 53 Poise.

Str builds can either be nimble with little armor and poise, rolling and evading and striking at the opponent's openings, or heavy and tanking, with as much armor as you can wear, a big shield, and trading hits. The in-between builds, i.e. mid roll without fantastic poise/defense, are the easiest to kill.

You still fall into the first category if you're fast rolling, and you can't poise a hit from the same weapon class like that, it's still a "fast" type of Str build.

I used the gargoyle helm, black leather chest, balder gauntlets, and a crimson waist cloth. Not very pretty but if paired with the wolf ring it's 53 poise and don't have to get your END very high. With 10 humanity it nets me a little over 300 physical defense and about the same magic defense with other great resistances and defenses. I'm loving my character do far.

I think your build will be fine. Don't listen to these guys that suggest that you need 70+ poise, because you don't. Nor should you listen to anyone who suggests that you need the fast roll or DWGR to be successful, because you don't need that either.

I just uploaded 4 20min+ vids with a strength build that medium rolls with only 53 poise and I did just fine. Many of these guys that are offering you these ninja flipping poise stacking build suggestions are too dependent on the DWGR and poise. The more you practice with your build, the better you'll get. Good luck with your strength build! cheers

I love strength builds, I never knew how effective these fun as hell weapons could be! Mid rolling with Elite Knight everything except guardian legs level 100 and using every weapon I can get my hands on . Having so much fun using the Greataxe weapons, flinging people in the air on showing them how painful gravity can be . Thank you Martyrs!

@martyr no one even mentioned the dwgr dude lol the reason people prefer to sacrifice end for fasst roll is because the iframes are so much better but yeah he is med rolling and going for a tank which imo it should have more than 53 poise to be able to trade hits. i saw one of the vids and most of your opponents were newbires since most of he people on pc havent pacticed long enough to get good at pvp, if youo were to do that in the burg on ps3 you wouldve gotten rolled bs'd all day, i only use str since day one and the only weapons i rarely get rolled bs'd is the msgs and ugs that have wide arc r1's like the DGM since you can just unlock and aim the next attack behind you and stunlock them.

They need the i-frames to roll behind players and fish for bs's? You call that good at pvp, if we're not talking backstab fishing then mid roll is great enough. As for roll bsers, it becomes a game of tactics, just the same as if you are fast/ninja rolling.. Mid roll doesn't hinder the ability to counter roll bs'ers.. honestly... it throws most of them off (is using a str build on ps3 as well as PC)

i meant that he wouldve lost most of the fights, i actually HATE people that only try to bs me whenever they see me with a str weapon and the burg is the place to go if you wanna get roll bs'd which ruins pvp imo since they do NOTHING but bs which i can counter just fine but i can only do it so long until i get bored of duels. i never bs unless i get bs's first btw, bs is so broken because of lag.

I agree, and in a legit fight i'm the same way. (somebody I know, or somebody who noticably lets bs chances go). Although people get so scared when they do a punishable attack and i'm just standing at their back not stabbing it .

"...no one even mentioned the dwgr dude..." RantfromRant, First and foremost the user who created this post specifically wrote about a medium rolling strength build with 53 poise. Others made suggestions for him to use more poise or a build that did not medium roll, hence the fast roll or ninja flip. So, my comment spoke to anyone who made suggestions for something OTHER THAN a medium rolling strength build with 53 poise.

Secondly, the fact that an "experienced" Burg player would resort to "roll BSing all day" makes them worse than any so-called "newby" in my opinion. There is no reason that an experienced PvPer has to resort to BS fishing, and that's what a roll BSer is.

Lastly, your statement about "most of your opponents were newbires" is not correct because a good number of them I have fought against on the consoles. Your statement fails to acknowledge that a large number of console players are also on the PC edition. So, unless you knew "most" of the players personally and had known that they had no other PvP experience other than what you saw, then I'm not really sure where that comment came from Shrug

I never mentioned the dwgr as a way to stack poise, I said that if he's going to be mid rolling he might as well put on as much poise as he can so he can trade hits, or try for fast roll with only 53.

Still going to rock my smough cosplay(joke, but i can pull it off ) http://tinyurl.com/9rpdtvv

We got to remember this game is for fun, even if you lose sometimes it's better to play the way you want. It's not like medium rolling and using STR weapons will mean you are going to lose EVERY fight. This guy has a really cool video of him using medium roll and the greatsword on consoles, against mostly flipping mom tanks with buffed katanas. He even pulls off some impressive roll backstabs using medium roll. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KyIARvCVHb4 not the best quality, but a cool pvp video.

@martyr but no one mentioned the dwgr, whenver people say fast roll it means fast roll not flip since everyone is doing fast roll builds since the dwgr is getting nerfed really soon. i know what a roll bs'er is and you should know from playing in the burg that roll bs is the only thin gmost people do, good ro bad is there to stay. and yes i know that some people got it cause they wanted to play the new content right away but not a lot and by judging byt the way most people played it looks like they're still getting used to pvp on pc, i couldnt believe when people didnt bs you when you left your bak open for a bs.

@fpn those are some cool vids, i love tking's vids, hes one of the best fat rollers ive fought against if not the best but then again i rarely see fat rollers. i have been using med roll for a couple of months and ive been doing fine but i prefer the fast roll because i never block and always dodge which gets me killed sometimes but i learn from my mistakes. the only weapon i never get rolled bs with is the msgs which i love but that's all gonna go away since the speed nerfed is gonna suck since i wont have time to turn around and attack behind me since the animation is gonna take longer but we'll see how it goes, im so pissed about that though but i really dont know if i am gonna come back to dks since im having so much fun with borderlands 2 right now. also i always play for fun since i find str weapons to be the most fun to use.

The thing with the speed nerf, and that same guy who did the Heavy Knight video has a test of. The speed nerf is only to the recovery speed of the r1, you can still chain a stunlock by doing r2-r1 combos. Its obviously a little more difficult then just r1-r1-r1, but it's still completely viable from what ive seen. I still need to try everything for myself, but those videos seem to suggest that the r2 is the same.

I actually think that greatshields are going to be a lot more useful come the DLC patch, cause i think all that confusion about light weapons bouncing off shields only applys to greatshields(and the iron round shield). From what i can tell katana r1s don't bounce off though, really can't wait for the 23rd so i can test everything im curious about for myself.

RantFromRant wrote:@martyr but no one mentioned the dwgr, whenver people say fast roll it means fast roll not flip since everyone is doing fast roll builds since the dwgr is getting nerfed really soon. i know what a roll bs'er is and you should know from playing in the burg that roll bs is the only thin gmost people do, good ro bad is there to stay. and yes i know that some people got it cause they wanted to play the new content right away but not a lot and by judging byt the way most people played it looks like they're still getting used to pvp on pc, i couldnt believe when people didnt bs you when you left your bak open for a bs.

All I can say is everyone is not into fishing.
