All the enemies who are hollowed have a sort of a mass of scar tissue/weird rooting over their chest and when you are naked, you merely are dried up normally. So it made me wonder, if being hollow has something to do with the whole rooting/scar in their chest. Just check the concept art for them or take a good look at one ingame

Yeah that's a good point. I'm sure a lot of people noticed, but maybe it's a pretty literal term. "Hollow".

Re: Hollwed in the heart
It could be an abstract concept. Such as, hollowing=loss of heart or will power. Therefore being hollowed completely would cause you to lose will and then sanity. This would explain the reason, but not how the scar actually got there.

JohnnyHarpoon had a good theory that becoming an undead was the result of doing some horribly evil act. You can probably find the thread a few pages back.

Actually nvm, I think the scar represents the fire keeper scar or the firekeeper ability. I say this because as you've noticed every hollow or undead contains this scar. When you read the rite of kindling it says it's passed down through clerics however, the undead can easily imitate this technique as well. I'm guessing this scar represents the ability to utilize the bonfires.

I think the same, it seems to be part of the curse. Why do they have and how? I have no idea.

I agree in that it seems to be part of the curse of undead...your character has it too, so it doesn't appear only on undead who have gone hollow.
In fact the scar is eerily reminiscent of how a Firekeeper Soul looks, yes.

Come to think of it.. the firekeeper souls descriptions mention each having a place for humanity or souls and it disfigures the area where its all stored. That would make sense to me.

Re: Hollwed in the heart
Have you ever noticed where your left hand goes to when you do something to the bonfire? Watch carefully, it's held over the left breast.
Maybe when you do anything with the bonfire, you're just willing it to happen. Think about it. You get the scar when you hollow out (lose all will power and go insane)
