Experience different for heavy attacks? Empty Experience different for heavy attacks?

Post by daikeez Mon Sep 17, 2012 11:15 am

So, I noticed there's a difference between regularly killing certain enemies and killing them with heavy attacks... or is it just me?

First noticed it on the Stone Knights in Darkroot Garden. I usually just two handed heavy attack to kill them and get 720 souls. But when regular attacks kill one, I only get 600 exp. And that's another thing, why do I get 600-720 when the wiki says 300? Is that a PC change?

There have been a few other enemies that seem to do this, though most do not. And maybe my weapon is what's doing it? I've always used the Black Knight Sword, which for the record I'm planning on asking to marry big grin

Now I've got myself curious, and I may just have to trek down to Darkroot garden with a different weapon and see if that's the fix.

Experience different for heavy attacks? Empty Update: Experience different for heavy attacks?

Well, walked down to Darkroot Garden with a few other weapons, and it was the sword. So, now the question is can anyone confirm its not just me? And why the Black Knight Sword? Is this just an isolated incident? And why only a few seemingly random enemies? Is there a list of enemies that give more souls when killed with specific weapons? And is there a list of these weapons?

Ok, Ok, I'll stop with the questions. In this post at least happy

That's the overkill bonus kicking in. When you do 150%+ damage to an enemy you get a 20% bonus to souls dropped from that enemy. So if the enemy has 400 health points, you must do 600+ damage in one hit to get the bonus (chaining damage from multiple attacks doesn't count).

Could be the Overkill bonus giving you 720 instead of 600 since that is a 20% increase. Also you could be getting more souls than what is said on the Wiki due to being in NG+ or even one of the more recent patches.

I've noticed that you tend to collect more souls with riposte attacks. Didn't know it was because of overkill damage though, thats neat!

Aaahhh, didn't know there was such a thing as an overkill bonus. Explains why zombies started giving me 24 souls instead of the usual 20 happy

    Thanks for the quick replies.
Now all I have to do is check the wiki and see if the PtDE drops different souls, which is probably the case
